Horror aficionados, rejoice! A beloved horror property from the 1980s is gearing up for a major resurgence, with plans for both a new film and a video game.
We’re talking about the iconic Friday the 13th franchise, featuring the legendary masked killer, Jason Voorhees.
New Friday the 13th Game Confirmed To Be In Development
Robbie Barsamian, Vice President at Horror Inc., confirmed the news during an interview with Bloody-Disgusting at San Diego Comic-Con. While details are scarce, Barsamian stated that a new game and movie based on the slasher series are both actively being developed.
“A fresh film installment and a new game are high priorities. That’s where we’re directing most of our efforts right now. I’m pleased to say that we’re finally in a position to make it happen,” Barsamian stated.
The executive further noted, “We aren’t making any formal announcements alongside our partners today, but I can confirm that both projects are underway and in the works.”
This is fantastic news for fans of the long-running series, and for horror game enthusiasts generally. Hopefully, Barsamian is indicating a major gaming title, not something designed just for phones.

While Jason appeared in Mortal Kombat X, the last major game focused on the franchise was Friday the 13th: The Game, launched in 2017. This survival horror multiplayer title, available on consoles and PC, ultimately had its servers shut down in November 2020 due to dwindling player numbers.
Notably, a puzzle game based on the series arrived in 2018, called Friday the 13th: Killer Puzzle. It was released on mobile and PC platforms.
Considering the current popularity of horror games, now could be the ideal moment for a Friday the 13th single-player experience. We’ve witnessed similar titles, like Until Dawn, achieving considerable success. There’s no reason why a well-known franchise like Friday the 13th couldn’t emulate that.
