Get ready for a blast from the past! 8BitDo’s modern take on the classic Nintendo 64 controller is set to launch next Wednesday, July 30th. The gaming accessory maker officially announced the date via email to GameSpot. This 8BitDo 64 Bluetooth Controller was initially previewed alongside the Analogue 3D console last October. However, due to multiple delays of the Analogue 3D’s release, this gamepad’s release was also adjusted.

While designed to perfectly complement the Analogue 3D experience, this versatile controller works seamlessly with PCs, the Nintendo Switch, and Android devices. If you’re a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscriber, this controller provides a fresh way to enjoy those classic N64 titles. The 8BitDo 64 Bluetooth Controller is available for preorder on Amazon for $40, offered in both white and black.

We’ve reached out to 8BitDo to learn if the new controller will be compatible with the rumored Switch 2. A selection of their existing controller lineup received firmware updates upon the Switch 2’s (hypothetical) launch in June. Given that their most recent controllers, like the Ultimate 2 Bluetooth, All-Button Arcade, and the upcoming Pro 3 Bluetooth, are all compatible with the Switch 2, it would be surprising if this new 64 controller was not.

But that’s not all! Mark your calendars: August 12th will see the launch of the Pro 3 Bluetooth Gamepad for $70. This highly adaptable, retro-inspired wireless controller will be compatible across a range of platforms including Nintendo Switch 2, Switch, PC, Apple, and Android devices. Head over to our 8BitDo Pro 3 preorder guide for even more information.

What is the Analogue 3D?

The Analogue 3D represents the next console from this maker of premium retro hardware. Preorders for this $250 console are currently sold out since its initial offering last October. Those interested in reliving their retro gaming experiences will want to monitor closely for potential restocks following its release scheduled for late August.

This console allows gamers to use original N64 game cartridges and offers a hardware-accurate emulation with 100% game compatibility, supporting resolutions up to 4K. Equipped with four controller ports, it accommodates both classic Nintendo 64 three-prong controllers and third-party wired alternatives. It’s important to note that the console does not include a controller; therefore, consider purchasing the new 8BitDo 64 Bluetooth Controller or another controller to fully enjoy the system.

Pre-owned N64 controllers are available at GameStop. Alternatively, affordable clone controllers of the original design can be found on Amazon.
