Aavegotchi Shifts Gears: Departs Polygon, Embraces Base Network

The team behind the popular crypto collectibles game, Aavegotchi, has announced the successful completion of their move from the Polygon network to the Base blockchain. This marks the end of their long-standing presence on Polygon. Base will now serve as the central hub for Aavegotchi’s digital assets, its underlying smart contracts, the interactive gameplay, and the community-led DAO governance.

Significantly, all the smart contracts previously active on Polygon have been permanently frozen. From this point forward, the entire Aavegotchi ecosystem will operate exclusively on the Base network.

The Strategic Rationale Behind Choosing Base

The decision to migrate to Base was not taken lightly. According to the official announcement, four pivotal factors influenced this strategic choice:

  • Enhanced Infrastructure and Scalability: Base provides a more powerful and scalable technical platform, essential for Aavegotchi’s evolution from a gamified NFT project into a fully functional on-chain protocol.
  • Streamlined User Experience: The revamped Base app (formerly known as Coinbase Wallet) offers a smoother and more intuitive user experience, simplifying access to the Aavegotchi universe with improved self-custody options.
  • Alignment with Ethereum Principles: Unlike certain other blockchain networks, Base refrains from introducing its own proprietary token. This allows Aavegotchi to maintain a strong alignment with the core values and principles of the Ethereum ecosystem.
  • Shared Cultural Values: Base fosters a culture of experimentation and composability, values that have been central to Aavegotchi’s innovative approach since its very beginning.

Impact on Aavegotchi Users: What to Expect

Following the completion of the migration, Aavegotchi’s digital assets, including NFTs, wearable items, and in-game components, have been replicated onto Base using a snapshot and minting process. In most cases, users will not need to take any specific actions; their assets should automatically appear in their Base-compatible wallets.

  • Polygon-based tokens will remain visible as non-transferable ERC-721 tokens for record-keeping purposes.
  • REALM Parcels and other in-game assets, such as Installations and Alchemica, are scheduled to be migrated in a subsequent phase.
  • GHST token holders are advised to migrate their tokens to Base, as DAO voting rights will soon be limited to GHST tokens residing on the Base network.

For users who held assets in contracts like the Gotchi Vault or Gnosis Safes, the Aavegotchi team has replicated those holdings to corresponding addresses on Base. Any issues encountered during the migration process can be addressed by submitting a support ticket in the official Aavegotchi Discord server.

Future Plans: Aavegotchi’s Roadmap on Base

Now firmly established on the Base network, Aavegotchi is gearing up to launch a series of new initiatives, including the Gotchi Guardians game, enhanced DAO infrastructure, and expanded community engagement tools. This migration also supports ongoing efforts to enhance GHST token liquidity and foster Base-native integrations.

While this represents a significant transition, the team emphasizes that it is part of a larger strategic vision to build a more scalable, decentralized, and Ethereum-aligned ecosystem for Aavegotchi.
