A unique artwork representing Bitcoin’s anonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, has been reported missing from its location in Lugano, Switzerland, creating a stir in the Bitcoin art community. The Satoshigallery, caretakers of the statue, is offering a reward of 0.1 BTC for information leading to its safe return, adding another layer of intrigue to the legend of Satoshi Nakamoto and the distinctive sculpture.

Following the statue’s disappearance, the Satoshigallery team announced the reward on
X (formerly Twitter), reaffirming their commitment to installing 21 Satoshi statues globally. This project mirrors Bitcoin’s capped supply of 21 million coins, emphasizing the values of scarcity, decentralization, and lasting permanence. The gallery posted:

“You can steal our symbol but you will never be able to steal our souls.”

Capturing the Essence of Satoshi Nakamoto

More than just a monument, the statue was valued for its artistic interpretation. Designed to reflect the spirit of Bitcoin’s elusive founder, the artwork cleverly uses perspective to convey meaning. Appearing invisible from a direct frontal view, it alludes to Nakamoto’s
anonymity.

The form becomes visible when viewed from the side, serving as a reminder that while Satoshi may be concealed, his enduring impact is always present within the Bitcoin philosophy. The statue effectively captured Nakamoto’s profound influence on the cryptocurrency world.

Bitcoin Community Support

The Bitcoin community worldwide has shown strong support and solidarity in response to the theft. Many view the statue as a symbol representing resilience, innovation, and the ongoing pursuit of financial freedom.

Tuur Demeester, advisor at Blockstream and early Bitcoin adopter, commented:

“Very sad… Next one should maybe be in a few cubics of granite”

Preston Pysh, founder of TIP, simply stated:

“Even his statue disappears…”

As the search progresses, the story of Satoshi, both the individual and the statue, underscores that certain mysteries in the digital era only intensify with each attempt to suppress them.

Anyone possessing information concerning the whereabouts of the Satoshi Nakamoto statue is urged to contact the Satoshigallery team.
