You didn’t need a front-row seat at the Fatal Fury championship rounds at Evo 2025 to witness Kazuyuki “KojiKOG” Koji’s dramatic display. The moment he theatrically writhed in agony went viral instantly, sparking countless memes that circulated the internet faster than a trip through South Town. However, KojiKOG’s exaggerated performance was more than just a show for the cameras.
KojiKOG suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the semifinals against Goichi “GO1” Kishida, who ultimately secured the tournament victory. KojiKOG chose Billy, while GO1 opted for Kain. Both are highly regarded characters in the current meta of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, released earlier this year. KojiKOG found himself on the defensive from the start, unable to escape GO1’s relentless combos. After swiftly losing the opening round, KojiKOG managed to create a few opportunities in the second. Twice, he nearly turned the tables, reducing GO1’s health to a mere sliver before ultimately failing to land the finishing blow.
Though the entire semifinal match lasted under five minutes, KojiKOG’s exaggerated expressions of defeat stretched for nearly a full minute. As GO1 chuckled, shrugged, and attempted to console his opponent, viewers online immediately clipped the scene and shared it widely. This moment captured not only the high stakes of the match itself, but also the inner frustration we’ve all experienced when we’ve given our best effort and still fallen short.

As fans have noted, this isn’t the first instance of KojiKOG employing exaggerated facial expressions for the cameras, and it wasn’t his first encounter with GO1. These two fighting game experts previously faced off in the finals of an Evo 2015 side tournament for the 2D anime fighting game Aquapazza. KojiKOG also lost that time, replicating a similar act of simulating a leg injury. This time, however, the stakes were higher, with more money and recognition up for grabs. GO1’s victories earned him an additional $10,000 from the prize pool. He is also in a strong position for the $2.5 million Fatal Fury prize at the SNK World Championship in November.

“KOG, whose leg was amputated after 10 years, vs GO1 EVO2025,” KojiKOG shared on X. While dramatic celebrations after victories are a common sight in the fighting game community, KojiKOG may have transformed the opposite – the reaction to losing – into its own distinct art form. Fans are already anticipating his next spectacular defeat.
