Pemmsani Chandra Sekhar, the Minister of State for Rural Development, clarified on Tuesday that the Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme (DILRMP) does not include blockchain technology for land records. This program, entirely funded by the central government, was initiated in April 2016.

The Minister’s statement was in response to an inquiry from Kadiyam Kavya, a Member of Parliament representing Warangal from the Congress party. Kavya had asked if the Ministry of Rural Development was considering the implementation of blockchain-secured digital land records for farmers in Warangal. Her concern was to simplify the distribution of subsidies and reduce instances of fraudulent claims. She also encouraged the government to investigate the use of blockchain to ensure that smallholder farmers have clear and open access to agricultural subsidies.

Furthermore, Kavya requested information regarding any potential trial projects within Telangana’s various districts. She also inquired about a projected schedule for the rollout of this technology, aimed at increasing transparency within rural subsidy programs.
