Greetings! A new logic puzzle game, Is This Seat Taken?, has launched unexpectedly today, August 7th. This title, known for its somewhat cumbersome name to insert mid-sentence, follows a recent feature in the Nintendo Indie World presentation.

Prior to today, the only known information was an August release window, initially revealed during June’s Whole Direct event, for this game centered around strategically seating individuals. Now, it is available to play.

“We’re absolutely delighted to finally release our first game,” stated developers Ausiàs Dalmau Roig and Sergi Pérez Crespo in a Steam announcement. This announcement officially confirmed the release, which was teased with a new trailer during the Nintendo showcase. “For the past two years, we have put immense effort into developing Is This Seat Taken? and hope you enjoy playing it as much as we have enjoyed developing it!”

As the title suggests, the game involves satisfying various shape-like characters with unique preferences by assigning them to appropriate seats. Each scene presents challenges rooted in the limited number of chairs and the characters’ specific desires.

For those interested in previewing the gameplay, a demo that Nic previously explored remains accessible on the Steam page for Is This Seat Taken? at the time of this writing.

“I’m fairly sure this belongs to a very established gaming category, or is essentially an elaborate math problem, although I am having difficulty finding similar examples.” Reuben mentioned regarding his time with the demo, “A totally novel experience? Maybe, its certainly nice to encounter something that is both surprising and comfortably familiar.”

And so, there you have it. It’s like the video game version of the unexpected. The title alone often generates puzzled responses.
