During her presentation at the Baltic Honeybadger conference in Riga, held in 2025, she highlighted a disturbing trend: criminals are resorting to physical violence to coerce victims into revealing their private keys, a practice that’s occurring with alarming regularity.

She clarified that these attacks aren’t exclusive to major investors or early adopters. Individuals with relatively small cryptocurrency holdings are also at risk. Kidnappings have occurred for sums as low as $6,000 in digital assets, and tragically, some murders have been linked to amounts around $50,000.
Vranova projects that 2025 will witness a peak in physical assaults targeting Bitcoin owners. This escalating danger has compelled traders, software developers, and cryptocurrency company executives to prioritize enhanced personal security measures.
A contributing factor to this surge in violence is the widespread exposure of personal details due to data breaches at centralized cryptocurrency exchanges and similar platforms.

Vranova explained:
Currently, over 80 million Bitcoin and cryptocurrency user identities have been compromised and are circulating online. Alarmingly, 2.2 million of these compromised profiles include home addresses.
