Following the triumphant launch of the Silent Hill 2 reimagining – a project that significantly exceeded initial cautious expectations – Konami has officially announced a fresh collaboration with Bloober Team. This time, they’re setting their sights on recreating the original Silent Hill, a title that first haunted gamers back in 1999. While details remain scarce, Konami confirms the game is actively ‘in development’ by Bloober Team, but a specific release date is yet to be determined.

This announcement wasn’t entirely unexpected. Shortly after the release of the Silent Hill 2 remake, Bloober Team hinted at future projects with the same publisher. This fueled speculation among many, myself included, that remakes of Silent Hill and Silent Hill 3 were strong possibilities. Given Bloober Team’s success in respectfully updating Silent Hill 2, it would have been a missed opportunity to not task them with revitalizing other classic entries in the franchise.

Fortunately, Konami seems to share this sentiment. Silent Hill enthusiasts can now anticipate a return to the chilling, fog-laden town that started it all. Unlike Silent Hill 2, which centers on James Sunderland and his deeply unsettling experiences related to his deceased wife, the original Silent Hill places players in the role of Harry Mason, a single father traveling with his adopted daughter to Silent Hill for a vacation intended to provide solace after the death of Harry’s wife. Okay, the premise may sound a touch similar to Silent Hill 2, but bear with me.

En route to Silent Hill, Harry and Cheryl are involved in a car accident. When Harry regains consciousness, his daughter has vanished. The narrative unfolds as Harry frantically searches for Cheryl, encountering a host of bizarre characters and terrifying creatures. While the core concept might still evoke echoes of Silent Hill 2, trust me, the original game delves into much more than just Harry Mason’s psychological state, details I won’t spoil for those who will experience the story for the first time through this remake.

Bloober Team faces a significant challenge in remaking another Silent Hill installment. The pressure on any developer undertaking such a task is immense. However, given the exceptional quality and critical acclaim garnered by their Silent Hill 2 remake, I personally hold high expectations for any Silent Hill project bearing Bloober Team’s involvement.
