The latest content additions for Monster Hunter Wilds have kept hunters busy, providing fresh challenges like acquiring powerful charms and facing intense, high-level battles. However, PC gamers continue to grapple with subpar performance, and Capcom has announced that substantial improvements aren’t expected until the winter season.
An announcement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on August 18th states, “We are dedicated to addressing the concerns of our PC Monster Hunter Wilds players and enhancing the game’s performance and stability. While we’ll continue rolling out incremental enhancements in the coming weeks, our primary focus is Free Title Update 4 this winter. This update will feature a comprehensive strategy, encompassing CPU and GPU optimizations, followed by additional mitigation measures. More specific details will be shared at a later date.”
Fan reactions have been largely unfavorable. One player commented, “Waiting a full year for even minor PC optimization is unacceptable. We’re essentially paying for the same stability and performance as free updates. Even with high-end hardware, I’m forced to play on low settings just to get by.” Another user expressed, “I love MHWilds, but waiting almost a year for a marginal improvement in performance is ridiculous.”
Similar complaints are common on the game’s subreddit and in recent Steam reviews. Monster Hunter Wilds currently holds a “Mixed” rating on Steam, with only 25% positive reviews – a slight improvement from earlier in the summer, but still a far cry from the overwhelmingly positive reception of other recent titles in the franchise. While not everyone is experiencing issues, many players with various PC builds report frequent crashes, low-quality textures, and inconsistent framerates, even at 30fps.
Title Update 3, scheduled for release in September, will introduce a new monster and make balance adjustments to combat and character progression. Title Update 4 will follow in the winter. In addition to these updates, fans anticipate the game’s first major expansion, following the typical 12-18 month pattern seen in other Monster Hunter titles. This expansion could be a turning point for PC players who feel the past six months have been more akin to an Early Access experience.
