Once an Xbox-exclusive cornerstone, the Gears of War franchise is now expanding its reach. The updated version, Gears of War Reloaded, is heading to PlayStation 5 alongside Xbox and PC. Cliff Bleszinski, a key figure in the series’ creation nearly two decades ago, recently shared his perspective on this platform shift.

Speaking with Eurogamer, Bleszinski stated, “It doesn’t feel strange.” He expressed excitement that a wider audience will have the chance to experience the legacy he helped build.

Bleszinski also mentioned his interest in potentially contributing to the franchise again as a consultant, though he hasn’t received any offers. Although he departed the Gears universe some time ago, he previously expressed his opinion that the series could benefit from a reboot, akin to the direction taken by God of War. He also revealed that he proposed an Alien game concept before Disney acquired Fox.

Gears of War Reloaded is the second revamped edition of the original 2006 title. It incorporates all the additional content released after the initial remaster, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. Those who already own Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will receive free upgrades to Reloaded from Microsoft.

Gears of War Reloaded will launch on August 28 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. The game will support cross-platform play and progression. It will also be available on Game Pass upon release. While Gears of War Reloaded is confirmed for multiple platforms, Microsoft hasn’t yet confirmed if Gears of War: E-Day, slated for a 2026 release coinciding with Xbox’s 25th anniversary, will also be cross-platform.
