Gaming enthusiasts, the wait is almost over! After years of anticipation, a highly-awaited installment in a beloved series is nearly upon us.
With the next Grand Theft Auto pushed back, the gaming world has turned its attention to something else: prepare yourselves, because Hollow Knight: Silksong is launching in just a matter of days.
This is welcome news for patient fans. The nearly radio silence from Team Cherry since the game’s reveal has fostered a dedicated community of meme-makers, some of whom have turned to humorous trolling while awaiting updates.
This month also sees the return of a classic horror franchise, Silent Hill. While the available trailers are promising, Konami needs to deliver a game that lives up to the series’ legacy and delivers an authentic ‘Silent Hill’ experience.
Besides these hyped releases, a variety of fascinating games are set to launch next month. There is no shortage of fresh titles to explore.
We would have loved to include Garfield Kart 2: All You Can Drift on this list, but sadly, we had to make some tough choices.
Hollow Knight: Silksong
Release Date: September 4
Platforms: PC (Steam, GOG, Humble Bundle), macOS, Linux, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S; Xbox Game Pass Day-One
Hollow Knight quickly became a sensation, especially among gamers drawn to the challenging exploration and combat of the Metroidvania genre.
Hollow Knight blends unique characters with tight, precise gameplay and rewarding exploration.
Silksong continues the adventure, placing players in the role of Hornet, a skilled hunter, as she journeys through a brand-new world teeming with hidden secrets and demanding boss encounters.
Baby Steps
Release Date: September 23 (delayed from Sept 8)
Platforms: PC (Steam), PS5
It’s rare when a game genre becomes associated with a single developer.
But Bennett Foddy struck a chord with his 2008 browser game, QWOP. The game used only the ‘q’, ‘w’, ‘o’, and ‘p’ keys to control the character’s legs, leading to either precise movements or hilarious, face-first failures.
Video games often let players control super-powered characters, but Foddy-like games maintain a focus on smaller, more straightforward actions.
Now we have Baby Steps, where you play as Nate, a “failson” who is down on his luck. However, one day he “discovers a power he never knew he had… putting one foot in front of the other.” The developers behind Baby Steps are calling it a “literal walking simulator.”
Borderlands 4
Release Date: September 12 (PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S); Nintendo Switch 2 on October 3
Platforms: PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2 (later)
Borderlands fans, rejoice! That poorly received movie from last year hasn’t put an end to the beloved shooter franchise. Borderlands 4 will be available in just a few weeks.
In addition to a new storyline and characters, the game will introduce a feature that allows you to capture outposts and drive a Digirunner on the world map.
Like other aspects of Borderlands, both the feel and look of your Digirunner are customizable. Beyond that, Borderlands 4 offers lots of weapons and ways to mix and match parts from different brands in order to create weapons of even greater power.
Henry Halfhead
Release Date: September 16, 2025
Platforms: PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), PS5, Nintendo Switch (compatible with Switch 2)
Drawing inspiration from titles like Katamari Damacy, Henry Halfhead establishes a simple, beautiful world.
You’ll take on the role of the titular Henry Halfhead, a character who is simply a collection of eyes, ears, and a nose.
Henry has the ability to inhabit anything he can land on, moving around or performing item-specific actions, such as using a kitchen knife to chop food.
This game looks both surprising and whimsical, and we are eager to discover the array of items that you can possess.
Dying Light: The Beast
Release Date: September 19, 2025 (PS4 & Xbox One versions later in 2025)
Platforms: PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), PS5 (incl. Pro), Xbox Series X/S (initial); PS4, Xbox One (later)
When playing Dying Light 2, the sequel to Dying Light, we all thought the same thing: “I miss Kyle Crane, the protagonist of Dying Light, a character I certainly remember.”
Dying Light: The Beast puts you back in the parkour shoes of Kyle Crane, but something has changed. A decade has passed since we last saw him, and he has spent that time as a test subject for an evil scientist, who gave him new powers and senses.
Kyle can now unleash his berserk mode thanks to these new abilities, but does that make him the titular Beast?
Silent Hill f
Release Date: September 25
Platforms: PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), PS5, Xbox Series X/S
Silent Hill fans have faced considerable challenges.
After a strong start in the late 90s and early 2000s with a selection of excellent and great survival horror games, Konami found it hard to produce a Silent Hill game that received the same positive critical and fan reception that Silent Hill 2 got.
It’s not that these games have all been bad, but they have failed to leave a lasting impression.
Silent Hill f’s trailers reveal that the game is shifting settings, trading modern American streets for 1960s Japan. This is a completely new setting, making it more of a fresh start than a sequel or reboot.
The enemies look fantastic, though trailers seem to be suggesting a focus on melee combat, a weak point for the series. Fans are crossing their fingers that this game is a success.
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles
Release Date: September 30
Platforms: PC (Steam), PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2
While the mainline numbered titles may come to mind when you think of Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy Tactics, initially released for the original PlayStation (though the Game Boy Advance SP release was my personal preference), is a standout and perhaps the most beloved spinoff in the entire series.
Instead of exploring vast landscapes with a few characters, you lead an army of wizards, warriors, and other classes in grid-based battles.
And the story is no slouch either, dealing with themes of power and corruption. This new edition features an updated script with full voice acting, “improved” art (which they’ve claimed before with mixed results), a revamped UI, fresh difficulty settings, and autosave.
This edition has the potential to become the definitive experience for one of Square Enix’s best games.
