In the intriguing world of Hell Is Us, a peculiar figure named Fyrgen Bronus, often called the Hermit, resides. You’ll encounter this character within the Acasa Marshes, where he displays a distinct passion for taking photographs. However, he lacks the appropriate lens to truly bring his artistic vision to life.

This is where you step in. Your mission involves locating a suitable camera lens and delivering it to the Hermit. Securing this lens is not a straightforward task; it’s not immediately apparent in the surrounding areas and calls for a thorough exploration of a level encountered around the game’s midpoint.

Players will want to assist the Hermit as quickly as possible, as it leads to a very valuable reward. This guide will walk you through the process of completing the Hermit’s quest within Hell Is Us.

How to Start the Hermit Mystery in Hell Is Us

You can initiate the Hermit’s quest line by either speaking directly with the Hermit in Acasa Marshes or by discovering the camera lens itself.

If you’re the type of player who meticulously combs each area before progressing, you’re likely to stumble upon the Hermit first, as the lens is located considerably later in the game.

The Hermit can be found to the far east of Jova. Journey eastward, sticking to the wooden pathways until you reach a gap between two sizable rocks. Passing through this opening will reveal the Hermit standing near a small shack.

When you speak with him, he’ll mention his interest in photography and hint that he needs a better lens for his work. This sets the stage for your search for the missing lens.

How to Find the Zoom Lens for the Hermit

The Zoom Lens is located in Talju, a region that becomes accessible after you insert the Grief Keystone into its designated spot within the Lake Cynon dungeon.

Starting from your spawn point in Talju, travel westward until you spot a green signpost reading “The Week of Peace.” Continue past this sign, where a tank displaying a flag will be visible. Then, take a left at the tank, and you’ll find a storefront window with a “Lozon’s Photo & Film” sign hanging above. This is located close to the Vanderlyn Trust.

Inside the window, you’ll notice a yellow, glowing object – the Zoom Lens the Hermit needs. Pick up the Zoom Lens and return to the Hermit in Acasa Marshes to give it to him.

After you trade the Zoom Lens to the Hermit, the mystery is still not solved. To continue the Hermit mystery, fast-travel to any other destination that isn’t Acasa Marshes, and then return to the Hermit. He will now have more photos on his bulletin board, giving a hint about what to do next.

How to Solve the Symbol Puzzle in Acasa Marshes

One of the photos on the bulletin board depicts four symbols, which provides the key to a nearby puzzle. To find this puzzle, head south (using your compass) to locate a large platform with rotatable pillars.

These four pillars each feature a series of symbols. Your goal is to rotate these pillars in the correct sequence to unlock the mechanism at the platform’s center.

The sequence is revealed in the mentioned image on the Hermit’s bulletin board. Identify which symbol corresponds to each pillar by observing the straight line in the image and relating it to the line present on the platform.

The images above provide a visual solution, but the solution is also detailed below. Begin with the pillar that aligns with the line extending from the platform’s center, and then proceed clockwise in the following order:

  • Pillar 1: Arrow pointing up and arrow pointing down.
  • Pillar 2: Four lines.
  • Pillar 3: Full circle with a tip at the top.
  • Pillar 4: Half circle with an arrow pointing out from it.

Ensure the correct symbols are facing inward, toward the center of the platform.

Once the pillars are correctly aligned, the center will open, revealing a chest.
