California’s Governor, Gavin Newsom, is exploring a novel approach to counter the association between former President Donald Trump and the world of cryptocurrency.

During a recent appearance on the Pivot podcast on August 29th, Newsom revealed plans by his team to launch a meme-based digital currency known as the “Trump Corruption Coin.”

Newsom clarified that the coin’s purpose isn’t self-promotion but rather to maintain focus on the controversies surrounding President Trump. When questioned about branding the token after himself, Newsom stated definitively, “No, it’s Trump Corruption Coin.”

Newsom further explained that this cryptocurrency endeavor is part of his “Campaign for Democracy.” Revenue generated from the token will be channeled into supporting voter participation initiatives and assisting with the redistricting process.

According to the Governor, these areas often lack adequate funding despite being crucial for reinforcing democratic involvement.

During the interview, Newsom didn’t hesitate to address the intent behind targeting President Trump’s public persona. He conveyed that the coin aims to shed light on the exaggerated and misleading aspects of President Trump’s public image, stating:

We’re just trying to turn up the heat and tune people into the absurdity.

As of August 25th, the press office account for Newsom on X (formerly Twitter) has been utilizing President Trump’s signature all-caps style in its messaging.

One post indicated, “EXCEPT WHAT IS WRITTEN AND BROADCAST IN THE FAKE NEWS, I NOW HAVE THE HIGHEST POLL NUMBERS I’VE EVER HAD, SOME IN THE 60’S AND EVEN 70’S. THANK YOU. MAKE AMERICA GAVIN AGAIN!!! — GCN”.
