Get ready to revisit Hill Valley! Marty McFly and Doc Brown are speeding Back to the Future to theaters in celebration of the movie’s 40th anniversary. For the first time ever, the celebrated film will be shown in IMAX. Movie studio Universal Pictures has just released a new preview, packed with the unforgettable soundtrack and all the nostalgic elements that fans cherish.

For those somehow unfamiliar, Robert Zemeckis directed this iconic sci-fi comedy. The film centers on Marty McFly, a teenager who unexpectedly travels thirty years into the past via a DeLorean time machine created by his quirky scientist buddy, Doctor Emmett Brown. Complications arise when Marty accidentally becomes romantically entangled with his future mom – awkward!

Back to the Future is set to return to cinemas across the country for a limited engagement, screening in IMAX, Dolby Cinema, 4DX, and D-Box formats. In addition to the theatrical re-release, it was revealed that the trilogy will also be available in special limited-edition 40th-anniversary 4K steelbooks starting October 14, priced at $49. An exclusive Amazon gift set is also planned, boasting unique steelbook artwork, a mini Gibson guitar replica, and a replica OUTATIME license plate as collector’s items.

Back to the Future remains a cultural touchstone. In 2015, fans worldwide celebrated “Back to the Future Day” on October 21, the date Marty travels to in Part II. Its influence continues today, with shows such as Rick and Morty drawing inspiration from the film’s dynamic of a young protagonist paired with an older, eccentric companion. And remember those popular deepfakes featuring Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr. as Marty and Doc, which fueled calls for a remake that never materialized?

If you or someone you know hasn’t experienced this cinematic treasure, make it a must-do activity for Halloween 2025.
