Howdy folks! Saddle up for some exciting news. Tombwater, a unique blend of Western grit and soulslike challenge, with Metroidvania-style exploration, has just announced its arrival date. Prepare for a showdown on November 12th, 2025, when it storms onto the scene.

Originally forged in the digital wilderness of Itch.io, this distinctive title is the brainchild of Max Mraz, known for Ocean’s Heart and the beloved Bloodborne tribute, Yarntown, in collaboration with Jake Wagner. This dynamic duo is setting its sights on Steam, where a playable demo is currently available for those eager to test their mettle.

With the release still a ways off, there’s ample time to prepare. And surely, no other exploration-focused, challenging adventures will grab your attention until then. So what’s the story? Here’s a glimpse into the dark world of Tombwater:

Venture into Tombwater, a town steeped in shadow and haunted by echoes from the depths of abandoned silver mines. It’s a place where death overshadows life, where madness has consumed a once-thriving community. Assume the role of a lone gunslinger, drawn to the desolate streets by the vanishing of Sheriff Elliott Flintwood – a cherished friend who bravely fought to protect the town. Unearth the truth by confronting terrifying horrors and battling against the encroaching madness.

So there you have it. The lawman’s gone missing. It’s up to you to don your cowboy boots and face off against eldritch abominations. These horrors, viewed from a top-down 2D perspective, look truly terrifying. Expect over 20 intense boss encounters as you navigate canyons and mines, uncovering hidden secrets along the way.

It’s an interesting mix, blending classic Western elements with melee combat, spellcasting, and concocting powerful tonics. Alongside trusty pistols, shotguns, and repeaters, you’ll have a variety of options for dispatching demonic adversaries. Because, well, variety is the spice of life (even if the Wild West had its own unique, less palatable spices).
