While Helldivers 2 thrives as a cooperative, constantly evolving experience, a feature present even in the original Destiny from 2014 is notably absent.
Specifically, the game lacks a social space akin to Destiny’s Tower, a central location for players to meet, mingle, and interact, regardless of whether they’re in the same squad.
The developers at Arrowhead appear to recognize this need. However, recent statements suggest such a feature is unlikely to appear within the lifespan of Helldivers 2.
A Social Hub for Helldivers? Maybe in the Next Installment
While a dedicated social hub for the game hasn’t been officially announced, Arrowhead’s CEO, Shams Jorjani, hinted on Reddit that it’s being considered for a future installment: Helldivers 3.
For those unable to access Reddit, Jorjani’s comment indicated it’s “on the feature list for the next one.” It’s important to note that Helldivers 3 hasn’t been formally unveiled, suggesting a distant release. Arrowhead remains committed to supporting Helldivers 2, with plans to expand the game for “the next few years,” according to previous statements.
Considering the expected lifecycle of the PS5, Helldivers 3 might align with the launch of the PS6, although a cross-generation release on both consoles remains a possibility.
Given the tremendous success of Helldivers 2, the likelihood of a third game, spearheaded by Sony and Arrowhead, is substantial. Even without an official announcement, Arrowhead is almost certainly brainstorming ideas for a sequel.
Whenever Helldivers 3 arrives, expect the developers to potentially incorporate a social hub. The current game’s wide array of emotes, customizable capes, and other cosmetic items practically beg for a space where players can showcase their unique Helldivers.
