After weeks of anticipation, Nintendo has officially announced a new Nintendo Direct presentation scheduled for Friday, September 12th, 2025. Get ready for a deep dive into what’s coming!

Here’s a glimpse of what to expect:

Prepare for approximately one hour of updates, reveals, and news concerning both current Nintendo Switch titles and upcoming games designed for the Nintendo Switch 2.

The focus on both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 games aligns with Nintendo’s strategy of continued support across platforms. Expect updates on highly anticipated games such as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (still slated for release this year!), Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, and other exciting projects. There’s also strong speculation that we’ll receive a concrete 1.0 release date for Hades 2. Remember the surprise launch of the original Hades after a September Nintendo Direct? Get ready for anything!

A significant detail is the duration of this Nintendo Direct. Clocking in at 60 minutes, this presentation is poised to be the lengthiest in Nintendo history, excluding the unveiling of the Switch 2 itself earlier this year.

What To Anticipate from an Extended Nintendo Direct

As previously noted, Nintendo has several confirmed titles in the pipeline for release throughout 2025 and beyond.

Here’s a rundown of known upcoming Nintendo games, along with their planned release windows:

  • Pokémon Legends: Z-A (October 16th, 2025)
  • Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (2025)
  • Rhythm Heaven Groove (2026)
  • Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream (2026)
  • Kirby Air Riders (November 10th, 2025) – Switch 2 Exclusive
  • Hyrule Warriors: Age of Pmrisonment (TBA) – Switch 2 Exclusive
  • Splatoon Raiders (TBA) – Switch 2 Exclusive

Even after a dedicated 45-minute showcase for Kirby Air Riders, we might still receive brief updates. Following the release of Donkey Kong Bananza, don’t be shocked if Donkey Kong and Paulina get new themed attire in Mario Kart World. Individual showcases for Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond are also probable in the future, though this event might finally reveal the release date for Retro Studios’ highly awaited title.

Nintendo Direct presentations typically span around 40 minutes and are brimming with significant reveals. So, what could account for this extended hour-long broadcast? Several factors are at play.

Primarily, September 13th marks the 40th anniversary of the groundbreaking Super Mario Bros. franchise. It would be surprising if Nintendo didn’t plan a celebration. Given that Super Mario 3D All-Stars commemorated Mario’s 35th anniversary, could this be the opportunity to port Super Mario Galaxy 2 to the Nintendo Switch 2?

Furthermore, Nintendo could use this event to finally present remastered editions of Metroid Prime 2 and 3 to build excitement for the launch of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (which recently received ratings in Brazil, the ESRB, and South Korea).

Numerous major franchises are expected to make their way to the Nintendo Switch 2. The Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing series have been relatively quiet, though Tomodachi Life might be filling the void for now. Personally, I hope to see new installments in the F-Zero and Star Fox series, but I’m not holding my breath.
