Tokenization Gains Momentum
However, this isn’t BlackRock’s initial involvement with tokenization. In the previous year, the company introduced the BlackRock USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund (BUIDL), offering accredited investors opportunities to earn yields in U.S. dollars.
Initially launched on the Ethereum ETH/USD blockchain, the fund is currently accessible across seven different blockchains. Data from Rwa.xyz indicates that the fund’s market value exceeded $2 billion at the time of this report.
Earlier in the week, Nasdaq Inc. NDAQ filed a request with the SEC to enable the trading of tokenized equities on its trading platform. The company emphasized that the tokenized versions would grant holders equivalent rights and advantages to conventional shares.
Prior to this, Robinhood Markets Inc. HOOD introduced tokenized stocks in Europe, including shares of prominent private organizations like OpenAI and SpaceX.
