The popularity of relaxing video games has surged recently, offering a refuge from the everyday grind. These games promise a gentle experience, free from overwhelming challenges.
Many seek these games as a balm for stress, but the truth is, not all hyped-up “cozy” games truly deliver.
Numerous titles try to charm with appealing visuals or quirky marketing, promising serenity. However, after a few hours of gameplay, many fall short of expectations.
It seems many developers are trying to benefit from the surge of interest in feel-good games following the popularity of games like Animal Crossing, but many miss the mark on quality. These so-called “cozy” games can be highly overrated, and those seeking authentic relaxation may need to look elsewhere.

Röki initially appears to be a charming adventure pulled from a storybook, and in some ways, it succeeds. The game world is highly detailed, clearly created with passion.
However, it may feel **too much** like a storybook, almost to the point of overshadowing the gameplay.
While the art and atmosphere are stunning, and the story of loss and redemption carries emotional depth, the focus on narrative and design seems to overshadow gameplay for many, including this writer.
The gameplay often feels unintuitive; discovering key items for puzzles seems more about enduring frustration than cleverness. Instead of a game, it may feel like an illustrated story with occasional interactive clicks.
Röki can be rewarding for puzzle enthusiasts who enjoy taking their time. But the imbalance between narrative and gameplay may leave some feeling that the “cozy adventure” aspect is lacking.

Coffee Talk
More Talking, Less Coffee-ing

While drink-making simulators can be appealing, Coffee Talk fell short of expectations for this reviewer.
Coffee Talk offers a cozy experience as a barista working the night shift in a fantasy coffee shop. However, the “coffee” aspect is nearly nonexistent, and the “talking” aspect lacks depth.
Creating drinks is as simple as pressing a few buttons in the correct sequence; there is almost no creativity involved. You’re simply following pre-set recipes.
The story becomes a dull slog after the initial gameplay. Conversations become repetitive, with “unique” characters that are essentially carbon copies of each other.
The characters go from interesting to stale, reminding you of annoying coworkers who overshare their personal lives. (It’s been years, Karen!)
Many storylines go nowhere, and dialogue reads like filler that should have been cut.
Coffee Talk may appear cozy, but it’s more of a point-and-click visual novel missing an engaging plot.

While organizing games have their appeal, the issue with “A Little to the Left” is in the execution.
Despite high expectations, this game proved disappointing.
The premise seems perfect for puzzle fans: tidying up, organizing, and a playful cat.
However, the game becomes monotonous and lacks imagination.
The puzzles shift from charming to repetitive. They lack the satisfaction of solving a puzzle.
Solutions often feel arbitrary, lacking creativity. The game discourages experimentation with personal organizing styles.
The Daily Tidy system turns a relaxing ritual into a chore, defeating the purpose of cozy gaming.
After playing for a couple hours, “A Little to the Left” gets dull quickly.
Overall, it’s comparable to boring educational computer games for kids.

Cozy Grove
Tedious, Never-Ending Fetch Quest

“Cozy Grove” tries too hard to be a cozy classic, falling short of its goal.
As a collect-a-thon, “Cozy Grove” puts players on a haunted island, helping ghost bears find peace. But, the gameplay becomes repetitive fetch quests and crafting tasks, causing you to feel that your only purpose is helping others find happiness.
Starting off charming, the game slides into a grind, making it feel more like a chore.
The art style is cute, but the game feels more like clocking into work than escaping into a cozy world.
If you enjoy repetitive tasks and have spare time, you may enjoy the game. Otherwise, it’s difficult to play without a drink in one hand and a stress ball in the other.

“Wylde Flowers” initially appears to be the perfect cozy game: farming, fishing, witchcraft, a charming town, and a fully voice-acted cast. But, the gameplay becomes laborious very fast.
Every upgrade and resource requires excessive grinding, becoming tiresome. It can take **days** to get enough soil for a larger field.
Those valuing their free time should avoid “Wylde Flowers” due to the amount of grinding. Everything takes hours to get, and the game’s “slow down” approach isn’t appreciated.
Despite a few hours of playing the game, you may feel bored to tears.
The pacing is slow, the grind is heavy, characters have limited depth, and the world is small.
There’s practically **zero** replayability, the visuals feel outdated, and the game’s appeal fades quickly.
The game’s base price is too high for what it offers.

After being on a wishlist for a while, “Sticky Business” didn’t live up to the hype.
The game offers very little to do.
While many make it sound like “Sticky Business” is the coziest game that allows players to experience entrepreneurship as an online sticker seller, it turns out that’s not the case.
You sit at your desk, you make stickers, and you mail stickers. That’s it. The game has no emotional relevance, NPC interactions, or meaningful gameplay; it’s essentially MS Paint.
The sticker-making part is fun, but that’s where the fun ends.
The rest of the gameplay is thin. Running the business requires repetitive clicking and rationing profits. Even the sticker creation is limited by in-game currency.
You could easily recreate the same sticker-making experience using the free version of Canva.
As far as being a game goes, “Sticky Business” is as gripping as a post-it note.
