The upcoming release of Hollow Knight: Silksong is nearing, and Team Cherry has released its second update. Patch notes have been shared, and Steam beta testing is underway. This update focuses on a variety of bug fixes, rather than changes to game balance. This is worth knowing as you delve into the game.

The development team posted an announcement on Steam, stating, “We’re approaching the final stages of the second post-launch update for Hollow Knight: Silksong.” The first update primarily addressed critical issues, while this iteration tackles remaining bugs and polishes aspects of specific tools. For those who choose to try the beta version, be prepared for further refinements before the official release.

Here’s a breakdown of the fixes implemented so far:

  • A “Dithering effect” option has been introduced in the Advanced video settings. This setting helps reduce color banding but may slightly soften the appearance of foreground objects. The default setting is “Off.”
  • The description for the “Herald’s Wish” achievement has been revised to clarify that players must complete both the wish and the game to earn it.
  • A glitch where the Savage Beastfly in Far Fields would sometimes remain beneath the lava has been resolved.
  • Rare instances of Shrine Guardian Seth escaping the playable area during battle have been corrected.
  • A failsafe has been added to prevent Lugoli from flying off-screen and failing to return during combat.
  • The likelihood of Silk Snippers becoming trapped outside of the Chapel of the Reaper battle arena has been reduced further.
  • Problems with death sequences playing improperly or becoming desynchronized when players die simultaneously with defeating bosses have been rectified.
  • A softlock issue caused by the Shaman Binding into a bottom transition has been fixed.
  • Cocoon locations have been adjusted in several areas to prevent them from spawning in inaccessible spots.
  • The Liquid Lacquer courier delivery being unavailable in Steel Soul mode has been addressed.
  • Issues with certain NPCs failing to deliver cursed hint dialogues in specific situations have been resolved.
  • Pondcatcher Reed can now reliably fly away after singing, as intended.
  • Instances of Verdania memory orbs replaying layered screen-edge burst effects have been corrected.
  • The break counter now functions correctly for multi-hit tools, such as the Conchcutter.
  • The Volt Filament damage multiplier is now correctly applied to Silk Skills.
  • Cogflies and Wisps are no longer inappropriately targeting Skullwings.
  • Cogflies now correctly maintain their HP between scene transitions.
  • Curveclaw now consistently breaks on the first hit after being deflected.
  • Plasmium Phial and Flea Brew now reliably restore as intended at benches.
  • Various minor enhancements and error corrections have been implemented.

Among the fixes, the quirky disappearance of Disgraced Chef Lugoli mid-battle is notable. Another interesting fix addresses the death sequence glitches when the player defeats a boss simultaneously with their own demise. Perhaps a unique reward could be given to players who achieve this rare feat. After all, it deserves some recognition!

Hopefully, Team Cherry will add something fun to ease the pain. In the meantime, check out our comprehensive Silksong walkthrough for all the essential tips and strategies. Ollie has put a lot of effort into it.
