Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army belongs to Atlus’ acclaimed Shin Megami Tensei series. Specifically, it’s a part of the Devil Summoner subseries, which also includes the 2022 RPG Soul Hackers 2. The original Raidou Remastered launched in 2006 for the PlayStation 2 as Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army.
Since its re-release, the remaster has garnered generally favorable reviews and positive feedback from fans. Currently, Raidou Remastered boasts a “Very Positive” average user review score on Steam, based on 687 evaluations.
Amazon’s product listing still identifies Raidou Remastered as the “Launch Edition.” As such, you may find a voucher for an early purchase bonus (the Raidou Glasses cosmetic item) included in the packaging.
It’s important to note that the Switch 2 physical edition of Raidou Remastered uses a Game-Key Card. Consequently, inserting the cartridge will trigger an eShop download to begin. The download size for Raidou Remastered on Switch 2 is 12.7GB.
A significant portion of third-party Switch 2 games employ these Game-Key Cards, including the highly anticipated port of Persona 3 Reload.
Because these cartridges effectively provide digital game licenses, regular Switch 2 players may encounter storage limitations sooner than expected. Expanding the Switch 2 storage capacity is simple with a microSD Express Card. The officially sanctioned Samsung 256GB option is a great value at $59. Alternatively, a 512GB SanDisk Gameplay microSD Express is offered at Walmart for just $78.
While Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army excludes “Shin Megami Tensei” and “Devil Summoner” from its official title, the story remains firmly within that universe. The game follows Raidou Kuzunoha – a character familiar to those who’ve played other MegaTen games like Shin Megami Tensei III and Soul Hackers. Raidou is an apprentice occult investigator and Devil Summoner, partnering with demons to unravel mysteries set in 1930s Tokyo and the enigmatic Dark Realm.
Distinct from other entries in the MegaTen series, Raidou Remastered presents an action-RPG experience with real-time combat. Players can execute combos as Raidou and utilize the abilities of over 120 demons that can be recruited. Notably, this remaster integrates the combat system from the original game’s sequel, Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon, though the sequel itself isn’t included. In addition to the upgraded combat mechanics, the remaster features improved visuals, fresh voice acting, a redesigned interface, expanded environments, and various quality-of-life improvements.
