The team behind the popular cooperative shooter Helldivers 2, Arrowhead Game Studios, has temporarily removed a specific type of Terminid enemy from the game. This action follows player feedback and internal assessments regarding the enemy’s problematic behavior. For the next five weeks, players exploring planets like Oshaune, including the cave systems introduced in the Into the Unjust update, will not encounter these burrowing foes.

The Rupture Warrior variant has been a focal point of player frustration since its introduction earlier this month. Its capacity to emerge rapidly from the ground and eliminate unsuspecting Helldivers proved difficult to effectively counter. Initially, the game session host was most vulnerable to these attacks. However, a fix implemented in Tuesday’s update, intended to resolve the issue, seemingly spread the danger equally across the entire squad, a change that some players disputed.

Now, the developers have decided that temporarily disabling the Rupture Warrior is the optimal solution, allowing them to refine the enemy’s mechanics and behaviors. Katherine ‘Baskinator’ Baskin, Arrowhead’s community manager, announced on the game’s official Discord server: “Yesterday’s patch, combined with existing balance issues, caused the Rupture Strain to behave in unintended ways. We are temporarily removing the Rupture Strain. This will not affect other enemy types. The improved Rupture Strain will return in 5 weeks.”

As of 5 PM BST on September 17th, the Rupture Strain has been deactivated and will remain so for a little over a month while the development team works to rebalance the warrior’s abilities, ensuring a more enjoyable combat experience for players armed with their standard gear.

Further clarification was provided by an Arrowhead QA lead, Jojo, on Discord, explaining the issues that have surfaced since the patch’s deployment. The initial problem of Rupture Warriors disproportionately targeting session hosts was attributed to a “networking issue” that Arrowhead addressed.

The developer stated: “Fixing that networking issue was more straightforward than tweaking the attacks, which was the root cause. Unfortunately, the fix spread the vulnerability to more players, making the attack feel unfair, but the fix was still necessary. We are now investigating the overall impact of rupture enemies.”

This assessment evidently led the studio to the conclusion that temporarily removing the enemy was the most effective course of action. The hope is that when the Rupture Warriors are reintroduced, their mechanics will be rebalanced to provide a more compelling and enjoyable challenge for players.

The Rupture Warrior issues are not the only challenges Arrowhead has faced since the release of Into the Unjust. The update was initially plagued by technical difficulties, which the studio swiftly acknowledged and committed to addressing. However, they expressed reluctance to release a patch focusing solely on performance improvements.
