While fans eagerly await the release date for Silo Season 3, this is the perfect opportunity to immerse themselves in the story’s origins with a newly released, premium edition of the book that inspired it all. The deluxe collector’s edition of Hugh Howey’s acclaimed novel, Shift, is now available for purchase. As Season 3 of Silo will draw from the events of Shift, there’s no better time to grab this fantastic collection of connected novellas. The Shift Deluxe Collector’s Edition is available for $37 at Amazon, and at Walmart.
While Shift is technically the second book in the Silo series, its narrative takes place before the events of Wool (Book 1). Fans seeking to complete their collection can find the matching Wool Deluxe Collector’s Edition for just $20 (originally $40) at Walmart. A similar offer was previously available at Amazon, but it quickly sold out. Furthermore, both Amazon and Walmart are offering The Silo Series 3-Book Box Set for the incredibly low price of only $22, the lowest it’s ever been. This collection, published by William Morrow in paperback in 2020, is a steal. For those who prefer digital editions, the Kindle version of the box set is available for a limited time for only $3.

The Silo Series Box Set includes the paperback editions of Wool, Shift, and Dust, along with a separate paperback collection of short stories set in the Silo universe. With approximately 1,700 pages of gripping science fiction, readers will also enjoy essays by Howey. All four books are housed in a protective slipcase.
The three main books in the series are also available individually in paperback. Each book is currently discounted to around $12.

Each Deluxe Collector’s Edition features unique cover art, colored sprayed edges, and illustrated endpapers. Inside the dust jackets, you’ll find a detailed topographical map of the silos in full color. The edges of Shift are sprayed blue, while Wool has red edges. In addition to the original three novellas comprising Shift, this 608-page edition includes an original short story set in the Silo universe, written by the author.
The first two seasons of the Apple TV+ show closely followed the plot of Wool, while also exploring unique character arcs and new plot points. It is anticipated that Season 3 will also deviate from the source material (Shift) in some ways, while still keeping the general story arc intact.
While often described as novels, both Shift and Wool are actually collections of novellas. Shift goes back approximately 200 years to tell the story of the apocalypse and the creation of the Silos.
The stories are largely told from the perspective of congressman Donald Keane, who begins working on the Silo project in 2049. Throughout the three novellas, readers learn more about E-Day and the global disasters that led to the opening of Silo 1 in 2110. The final section of Shift leads directly into Wool.
Shift Deluxe Collector’s Edition:

- Third Shift – Pact: A Novella

The Wool Deluxe Collector’s Edition shares the same qualities as the new edition of Shift, but with striking red sprayed edges. Since its debut in 2011, Wool has been released in several paperback and hardcover versions, but this is undoubtedly the most visually appealing. Fans should get a copy for $20 at Walmart before it sells out, just as it did at Amazon.
This 592-page edition of Wool includes four novellas and the short story “Holston,” which serves as Part 1 of the Silo series. Howey has also contributed a new essay to this edition with behind-the-scenes details about the Apple TV+ series.
Wool Deluxe Collector’s Edition:
- Holston: A short story
- Proper Gauge: A Novella
- Casting Off: A Novella
- The Unraveling: A Novella
- The Stranded: A Novella

It is speculated that Dust will be available as a Deluxe Collector’s Edition next fall. Until then, fans will have to settle for a paperback copy, as the hardcover edition of Dust is currently quite expensive on the reseller market.

Wool tells the story of a desperate struggle for survival. With the outside world rendered uninhabitable, the last remnants of humanity are forced to live within a vast underground silo. When the Silo’s sheriff abandons their post, a mechanic named Juliette is compelled to take their place, beginning a dramatic sci-fi epic that sees Juliette uncover a world-shattering conspiracy.
Originally, Howey self-published Wool through Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing program, releasing the story in smaller installments (novellas) – an approach reminiscent of serialized novels popularized in the 19th century by authors like Charles Dickens. Andy Weir, author of The Martian, had similar success with serialized releases, although he used his personal blog to share his story with readers.
Wool rapidly became a huge success story on the Kindle publishing platform. Its popularity led to a distribution agreement for a printed version of Wool, and ultimately a hit television show. The Apple TV+ series launched to critical acclaim in 2023. The show is scheduled to conclude with Season 4, which is expected to air in late 2025. This schedule might change, depending on whether Season 3 airs later this year or in early 2026.
The Silo Series also boasts an excellent audiobook version narrated by Edoardo Ballerini. Audible subscribers can get all three books for around $30, while non-members will pay around $40. In 2014, a graphic novel adaptation of Wool was released, which is currently available in paperback for only $11.50 (originally $19).
