Grab your warmest gear, preferably the Faydown Cloak, because Mount Fay in Hollow Knight: Silksong is a truly frigid locale.

This peak is notorious as a gauntlet of challenging platforming where staying warm is as important as making progress up its icy face. One wrong step and you might lose everything.

But there’s more to it than just challenging jumps and climbs; it hides secrets beyond the double jump upgrade. It’s well worth revisiting and thoroughly exploring. Plus, once you’ve acquired the Faydown Cloak, the biting cold becomes a non-issue. Let’s uncover the hidden gems scattered across this frozen expanse.

Faydown Cloak

Naturally, the Faydown Cloak is the first thing to discuss. You can acquire it after obtaining the Clawline from the Underworks. While the Clawline isn’t strictly required to complete Act 2, it’s highly recommended to get it before facing Grand Mother Silk.

You’ll be racing against the cold as you climb from the base to the summit, the chilling air threatening to freeze you to the core. It might seem difficult at first, but with practice using the Clawline, it becomes quite manageable.

If you’re struggling with the ascent, be sure to check out our comprehensive Faydown Cloak guide!

Later in Act 3, you’ll even find Mister Mushroom taking a break near the large bug-bird creature at the summit.

Fatal Resolve

Hollow Knight Silksong Pin Badge

In Act 3, you’ll have a real chance to battle the Pinstress. Recall the blue-clad figure from the Blasted Steps? She’s a formidable opponent!

First, accept her challenge in Bellhart and then ascend Mount Fay. Locate her on a small ledge above the breakable wall containing a bench. She’ll initially be asleep, so rouse her with a few strikes, and she’ll be ready to fight.

Exercise caution to avoid falling off the platform, as it will immediately reset the fight.

Attack Name

Description

Triple Pin

The Pinstress levitates and launches three pins at once, often repeating this two or three times in quick succession. She might also use this attack while grounded before leaping.

Downwards Slash

The Pinstress slashes diagonally downwards before executing a horizontal sweep across the platform.

Charged Slash

She can also use a standard charged slash that spans the entire platform while remaining on the ground.

Cross Cut

The boss pauses in the air, tucks inward, and then unleashes a large X-shaped slash. As the fight progresses, she’ll use a charged version that is significantly larger and more difficult to evade.

These are the key attacks to watch out for. The difficulty stems from her constant movement across the arena. She spends much of the fight airborne and dashing, limiting your opportunities for attack.

Prioritize dodging and seizing brief openings to strike. Eventually, you’ll prevail and receive the Pin Badge Tool, which reduces the charge time of your Needle Strike.

Liquid Lacquer Delivery

Hollow Knight Silksong Mask Maker

Engage with Tipp and Pill, the delivery duo in Bellhart, to start this quest. You must transport the Liquid Lacquer all the way from Bellhart to the Mask Maker atop Mount Fay.

The reward is not particularly enticing and is not needed for 100% completion of the game.

If you’ve done the Courier’s Rasher delivery, this should be more manageable. Consult our guide for an efficient route.

Follow the standard Courier’s Rasher route until you arrive at the Citadel. Once you reach the area with the Ventrica Station, instead of going right, turn left. Navigate upwards past the Spa and cross the large bridge leading away from the Citadel.

Venture through the Slab, down, and past the Bellway Station. Continue upwards and traverse Mount Fay as usual, completing the platforming challenges to reach the summit. From the summit, head left and slide down the western face of the mountain about halfway, looking for a path leading further west.

Ascend this brief tunnel, and you’ll arrive at the Mask Maker’s location. Originally, the reward for this delivery was a meager 360 rosaries. Now it is 680 rosaries… Still, it is not enough for such a long trek. If you’re seeking rosaries, simply farm the tall warriors in the Citadel’s corridors.

Memory Crystal

Hollow Knight Silksong Memory Crystal

Find the Memory Crystal near the bench on Mount Fay’s western side, specifically to the east of the bench.

Break through the wall, drop down, and continue smashing through the large ice crystals blocking your progress. Eventually, you’ll find a small room with the Memory Crystal.

When damaged, this crystal activates, creating a statue of you that explodes upon enemy contact. Although interesting, it’s outclassed by other blue tools available in the game.

Weaver’s Silkshot

Hollow Knight Silksong Silkshot

Firstly, you need the ruined tool, located in Bilewater. To get it, travel east from the Sinner’s Road entrance to Bilewater until you reach the furthest point.

Take this tool to Mount Fay’s summit, where you found the Faydown Cloak, and then drop off the eastern side to discover a small cave with a bench and a workbench. Use the Ruined Tool and a Craftmetal to make your Silkshot.

This is the only Silkshot you can craft yourself. Once created, you cannot obtain others. The other variants can be crafted by the Forge Daughter in the Deep Docks or the Architect in the Underworks.

Collectibles You May Have Missed

Brightvein Mask Shard

Hollow Knight Silksong Brightvein

This is only possible in Act 3. Revisit the lake located in the center layer of Mount Fay.

You will have previously knocked down a stalactite that’s now resting in the water. Use your Silk Soar to ascend and head east into a new sub-area named Brightvein. You’ll encounter a challenging platforming section where you’ll use your Faydown Cloak and Clawline to bounce off
