For roughly ten days, the incredibly challenging Deep of Night experience has been a part of the Elden Ring Nightreign expansion. Already, players have pinpointed areas for potential refinement, as well as stumbled upon a frustrating glitch that could unfairly negate their progress.

Designed for dedicated fans, the Deep of Night mode introduces a tiered system of increasing difficulty, offering a stimulating climb for seasoned adventurers. The mode also tweaks certain gameplay mechanics, creating a more engaging and demanding experience for veteran players.

The most significant issue reported by Nightreign players regarding Deep of Night revolves around its core progression. Successfully conquering a Depth level should allow advancement to the next, more challenging rank. However, some players have encountered a roadblock, preventing them from climbing the ranks as intended.

FromSoftware has acknowledged the problem and announced that a temporary workaround will be implemented in an upcoming patch while a permanent solution is developed. While a specific release date for the patch is yet to be confirmed, the developers also mentioned their intention to incorporate some player-requested quality-of-life improvements into the mode.

Firstly, an option to decrease Depth rank by one level will soon be available. For players not interested in lowering their rank, demotion protection will be added as well.

Reaching Depth levels 3, 4, and 5 will now grant protection against rank loss following a defeat. This provides immunity from a single defeat at level 3, and protection from two defeats at levels 4 and 5. Importantly, this protection is renewed each time the player reaches the same Depth level following a demotion.

Furthermore, FromSoftware is adjusting the system so that players at Depth level 1 will no longer lose points when defeated in matches at level 2 or higher, addressing the unfairness of being matched into excessively difficult encounters.

Lastly, Steam users on PC will soon benefit from the ability to resume their sessions even if Steam temporarily disconnects. Note that this applies solely to Steam’s servers; a connection to Nightreign’s own servers is still required.
