While anticipation builds for Black Ops 7, and the upcoming Call of Duty: Next event focusing on multiplayer, it turns out the bulk of multiplayer information has already been released.
Treyarch and Raven have surprisingly revealed extensive details regarding the game’s multiplayer aspects ahead of the Next event, covering everything from available hardware and multiplayer map environments to in-depth discussions about movement mechanics and level design strategies.
The official blog post is exceptionally comprehensive, possibly one of the largest ever seen for a Call of Duty title. It is carefully structured into multiple sections that comprehensively examine the multiplayer experience, leaving very few details unaddressed.
The extensive post details all 18 maps that will be available when Black Ops 7 launches. These include 16 core multiplayer maps designed for 6v6 combat, and two Skirmish maps designed for larger player counts. Notably, three of the 16 core maps are reimagined versions of classic Black Ops 2 environments: Express, Hijacked, and Raid.
Skirmish, a fresh addition to the game, supports 20v20 matches on expansive maps. These maps emphasize team-based objectives and incorporate vehicle usage. While a familiar formula, Skirmish receives less attention in the detailed blog post. Another new element is Overload mode, a unique take on the traditional Capture the Flag game type.
Regarding loadout customization, the major innovation this year is the Overlock system. This feature allows for the modification of tactical equipment, lethal items, Field Upgrades, and even Scorestreaks. Players can equip up to two Overclock abilities, offering enhancements such as increased equipment damage, altered environmental interactions, adjusted costs (specifically for Scorestreaks), faster charge rates (for Field Upgrades), or the ability to carry more items.
The post also dedicates a section to progression systems, outlining changes to camo challenges, the return of Weapon Prestige, and other adjustments to progression mechanics throughout the game.
Expect a similar in-depth exploration of Zombies mode soon. To catch up on all the multiplayer details revealed thus far, refer to the link at the beginning of this article. Black Ops 7 is scheduled for release on November 14 for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
