Facing hordes of hostile creatures in Minecraft at night can sometimes feel like an impossible struggle. But players should prepare! A fresh update is headed to Minecraft in late 2025 and will introduce exciting changes, including a new combat tool, a ridable animal, and adjustments to enemy setups.

Introducing the spear: a brand-new weapon! Game developer Mojang has revealed this implement is effective in both close-quarters combat and while mounted. Its damage is affected by your movement speed, so running into the fray is recommended.

The nautilus, the new aquatic mount.

The spear works well with the update’s new underwater mount: the nautilus! Players can befriend this creature with pufferfish. The nautilus will not only speed up aquatic exploration but also preserve your air supply, diminishing reliance on enchanted helmets. Nautilus armor sets, craftable from copper, iron, gold, diamond, and netherite, will also be found in treasure chests.

Prepare for fresh challenges as you test out the new weapon and mount, as you will be facing off against new enemy types. The zombie nautilus will generally not bother you, but the Drowned riding them use tridents and are hostile. On land, the zombie horse can be found, which also only attack when provoked. However, spear-wielding zombies may be riding it, eager for a fight.

While an exact date has not yet been announced for this “Mounts of Mayhem” update, Mojang plans to release it this coming holiday season.

Other announcements made at Minecraft Live included the release of the Copper Age update next week, the launch of the educational Friendly Fishing add-on, and news about a forthcoming Dragon Ball Z collaboration.
