Get ready to personalize your space in World of Warcraft! Customizable player housing is slated for early access this December. However, access will be granted exclusively to players who have pre-ordered the upcoming Midnight expansion for the celebrated MMO. As with most real estate ventures, there’s a slight catch even in the digital realm for our virtual heroes.

The introduction of player homes to WOW was initially revealed by Blizzard back in November of the previous year during a Warcraft 30th-anniversary presentation. The studio is finally responding to years of player requests to add a touch of domesticity to their heroic lives, offering them the chance to curate and arrange their personal havens. In essence, they requested the delightful torment of selecting the perfect sofa, and Blizzard is obliging.

This plunge into interior design will begin on December 2nd with the early access launch. This was announced by the developers in a detailed preview of the upcoming Midnight expansion. Keep in mind that early access is restricted to players who pre-purchase the expansion, which currently lacks a firm release date but is projected for early 2026.

It would have been preferable if Blizzard had not linked access to this new feature with a pre-order, given that many players are understandably hesitant about pre-paying for games. However, a valid argument can be made that charging for a feature designed to be part of a paid expansion isn’t inherently unfair, even if it may not be the most customer-centric strategy.

A sneak peek is currently available on the World of Warcraft website, offering a complimentary tour of pre-designed homes. This allows you to get a feel for the types of dwellings you can construct. It’s important to note that not all housing features will be available in the early access version; some will be reserved for the full Midnight release.

Regarding customization possibilities, decorations can be found on adventures, purchased, or crafted, even involving resource gathering. Items like carpets and drapes can be dyed in various colors. You can also construct your home by piecing together rooms of varying shapes and sizes to accommodate your hoard of items. These items can be moved, rotated, and resized to your liking. The exteriors of houses are similarly customizable.

Upon the full release of Midnight, players will be able to choose from several starting architectural themes tailored to humans, orcs, blood elves, and night elves. You will also be able to select plots of land with diverse landscapes and atmospheres. Neighborhood hubs will host challenges involving houses, and a housing leveling system will unlock even more customization choices as you progress.

The Midnight deep-dive also included information on the expansion’s primary storyline, which revolves around a character named Xal’atath initiating an invasion of Azeroth. The team also teased other features, such as an improved user interface element called “death recap”, which sounds promising.
