Volodymyr Omelchenko, who leads energy initiatives at the Razumkov Center, shared his insights on Espreso TV.
“In my opinion, this benefits him directly, not the nation of Belarus. The initial atomic energy facility also lacked a genuine purpose. Why? Because ventures of this nature inevitably attract subcontractors, providing avenues for illicit enrichment through bribery and corrupt practices,” he explained.
Omelchenko identifies this as the primary motivation.
“Secondly, his aim is to collaborate with Russia on cryptocurrency mining operations. Given Russia’s financial constraints, they are utilizing mining and digital currencies to circumvent international restrictions. This process demands substantial electrical power. I believe this to be Lukashenko’s core interest – engaging in corruption and establishing cryptocurrency mining facilities,” the specialist concluded.
- Lukashenko previously suggested to Vladimir Putin, the Russian leader, that they construct a new nuclear power station within Belarus, with the intention of providing power to Ukrainian regions under Russian control.
