The Web3 Foundation is dedicated to improving its grant initiatives, ensuring they effectively support
projects and teams that will push the Polkadot ecosystem to new heights. We’re pleased to announce updated
guidelines today, offering better clarity on the elements that capture our interest and support.

These guidelines are designed to help you assess whether the W3F Grants Program aligns with your project,
whether you’re an established developer, an innovative startup, or a team with a strong vision for
Polkadot’s future.

What We Seek

  • Prioritizing User-Focused Innovation: We’re excited about projects designed to solve
authentic problems for everyday users. The most impressive applications will showcase a comprehensive
understanding of user requirements, demonstrating how their solutions can benefit a wide audience. We’re
looking for projects that go beyond showcasing impressive technology, focusing instead on substantially
    enhancing user experiences.
  • Bolstering the DOT Token Economy: We are especially drawn to projects that
generate significant demand for and utilization of the DOT token, thereby reinforcing Polkadot’s economic
base. We want solutions that not only exist within Polkadot but also actively contribute to its expansion
    and long-term viability.
  • Solutions for Internal Use: We are deeply interested in projects that enable
“dogfooding,” not just by W3F/Parity but also by the broader community. Developing solutions that address
our own challenges creates a valuable feedback loop that improves product quality.
  • Sustainable Teams: Financial stability is critical for success. We favor teams
that demonstrate strong financial management, well-defined planning, and a viable path to financial
independence within 12–24 months. Show us that you’ve carefully considered your business strategy and
    resource allocation.
  • Commitment to Regulatory Compliance: Given the evolving regulatory environment,
we prioritize teams that recognize and actively address compliance requirements in their target markets.
Awareness of regulations isn’t just about preventing issues; it’s about creating dependable, reliable
    solutions.

Exciting Verticals

We are particularly interested in these project areas:

  • Cross-border payments & stablecoins — with a focus on solutions for LATAM
    & Southeast Asia
  • AI applications — such as content authentication, verification systems, and
    AI-enhanced tools.
  • DePIN/IoT Solutions — focusing on concrete, marketable products that connect
    the physical and digital realms.
  • Proof-of-personhood — identity solutions that uphold privacy while fostering
    trust
  • Web2 to Web3 bridges — integrating familiar user experiences (like HackMD or
    Spotify) into Polkadot

What Doesn’t Fit Our Vision

  • General blockchain projects that could function on any network without specifically using Polkadot’s
    unique attributes
  • Projects lacking clear sustainability strategies, practical business models, or a defined roadmap.
  • Applications that do not generate actual, substantial demand for DOT tokens
