Despite claims from CCP Games distancing themselves from the label, EVE Frontier remains, in essence, a blockchain-integrated MMO. Now, the developers appear to be embracing this aspect more openly, recently revealing a collaboration with the Sui blockchain network. The goal is to enhance the game’s smart contract assembly system and the blockchain-driven ownership structure, enabling it to function smoothly at a larger scale.
“By building EVE Frontier on Sui, we are taking the next step in our vision, blending CCP Games’ expertise in crafting expansive sandbox environments with a blockchain specifically designed for object ownership, modular design, and scalability. This harmonious alignment of technology and philosophy ensures that as EVE Frontier evolves, its digital universe will support intricate economic interactions, robust governance models, and an unchangeable on-chain record of player actions.”
According to the announcement aimed at players, this partnership promises quicker updates to the ownership and status of in-game items, both within the game and on the blockchain. It also unlocks more potential for creators using smart assembly tools. Further streamlining the experience, new players will gain access through email login, providing a built-in wallet and “predictable gas fees” for newly created blockchain-based items. CCP’s official press materials highlight the numerous technologies and tools enabled by the partnership, intended to ensure security and protection – a guarantee that has frequently been challenged in other blockchain and Web3 initiatives.
Regarding gameplay improvements, the current Cycle 2 test phase received a minor update that focused on bug fixes. Furthermore, the update significantly reduces the cost associated with establishing a tribe within the game.
