XRP (CRYPTO: XRP) has finally escaped the narrow trading range that restricted its movement for several weeks, surging by 6% to hit $1.40. This uptick follows a series of positive developments for Ripple, including Japan’s Rakuten integrating XRP as a payment option for 44 million users, a new collaboration with Kyobo Life insurance in Korea, and a surge in XRP ETF inflows, reaching $17.6 million on Wednesday.

Anyone tracking XRP throughout this year is aware that the $1.45 resistance level is paramount. In fact, XRP briefly breached this limit in March after the SEC and CFTC designated it as a digital commodity, peaking near $1.60 before retreating below $1.45. The question now is whether this current rally will overcome that barrier with strength.

Three Factors Fueling XRP’s 6% Surge to $1.40

Every significant XRP rally this year has been driven by a fundamental reason, and this latest one is no exception, backed by three primary catalysts. The first catalyst is Ripple’s announcement of a major partnership with a South Korean insurance company on April 15. This partnership aims to pioneer the first tokenized settlement of government bonds on blockchain in Korea, utilizing Ripple Custody and establishing stablecoin payment channels.

In addition, Rakuten Wallet in Japan has incorporated XRP as a tradable asset and payment option. This integration allows 44 million users to spend XRP at over five million merchants across Japan, and they can also convert Rakuten Points—Japan’s leading loyalty program valued at approximately $23 billion—directly into XRP. This marks XRP’s largest integration into everyday commerce, surpassing any previous exchange listing or ETF introduction.

Furthermore, there is a renewed flow of institutional investment into XRP products. Recent data shows that XRP ETF inflows have significantly increased following a period of stagnant flows, with $1.46 million on Monday, $11.2 million on Tuesday, and $17.6 million on Wednesday. These inflows represent the highest daily total since February 6 and the first consecutive three-day inflow streak since early March. Additionally, whale activity has reached a ten-month high during this timeframe, indicating major investors are buying alongside the ETFs.

Moreover, today’s SEC roundtable led by Commissioners Hester Peirce and Mark Uyeda may play a crucial role. Although the focus is on options market structure, XRP holders are closely monitoring it ahead of the impending CLARITY Act markup that the Senate Banking Committee is targeting for late April.

Understanding the Resistance at $1.45 for XRP

For many XRP holders this year, the most frustrating experience has been witnessing the price repeatedly approach $1.45 only to be rejected time and time again. This recurring issue stems from the substantial amount of XRP held at that price point.

Approximately 36.8 billion XRP, which represents about 60% of the circulating supply, has a cost basis of $1.44, according to Glassnode data. This situation leads to millions of wallets sitting on losses for months, eagerly awaiting the opportunity to break even. Consequently, every time XRP approaches this level, many choose to sell, causing the rally to falter.

We witnessed a similar scenario unfold in March, when the SEC and CFTC jointly classified XRP as a digital commodity on March 17, leading to a spike to $1.60. However, after the Federal Reserve held interest rates, the price quickly fell below $1.45 within the same week. Even the most significant regulatory victory for XRP could not counteract the selling pressure from breakeven sellers.

What is Required for XRP to Surpass $1.45?

For XRP to genuinely surpass $1.45 and maintain that level, several criteria must be met: the CLARITY Act needs to advance through committee, Bitcoin must hold above $75,000, and buying volume has to remain high enough to break through the selling pressure from breakeven sellers. Each rally this year has faltered because only one or two of these conditions have been fulfilled.

The CLARITY Act is particularly crucial as it would pave the way for banks and institutions to enter the XRP market. This legislation would designate XRP as a digital commodity under federal regulations, with the Senate Banking Committee aiming for a markup in late April. If it successfully clears the committee, institutional adoption of XRP would likely surge, providing the much-needed regulatory clarity.

The second catalyst involves Bitcoin’s need to breach key resistance levels, as altcoins generally struggle when BTC stagnates. XRP has mirrored Bitcoin’s movements during all major price swings this year, and as Bitcoin currently hovers around $74,000, a solid rise above $75,000 could elevate the entire altcoin market.

Lastly, increased XRP ETF inflows and whale accumulation have resumed following weeks of minimal activity. However, a single strong week of purchasing does not sufficiently alleviate the selling pressure from long-term holders. Therefore, these inflows need to be stable and consistent over weeks—and this brings us back to the CLARITY Act being the vital event that may encourage substantial capital investments in XRP products.

XRP Price Forecast: Will XRP Finally Surpass $1.45 With Strength?

XRP is likely to challenge the $1.45 mark this week, but whether it can break through decisively depends on the scheduling of the CLARITY Act markup before the end of April. Lacking this legislative progress, the rally may stall at the same resistance level that has obstructed every prior attempt.

Additionally, the ongoing ceasefire in Iran, which expires on April 22, offers XRP roughly five trading days to penetrate $1.45 before geopolitical pressures return. Should the situation escalate and oil prices surge past $110 again, it could negatively impact the entire crypto market, regardless of regulatory developments.

Thus, the critical timeframe to breach $1.45 with conviction is this week and early next week—before the ceasefire deadline. This is the key point of focus for XRP investors right now.
