Abstract, a layer-2 network focused on consumers within the Ethereum ecosystem, has announced its decision to wind down operations completely. The project team confirmed that the network will officially stop functioning on December 15th.
In their announcement, the team highlighted that the cryptocurrency landscape has evolved drastically since the inception of Abstract. They concluded that an independent blockchain model aimed exclusively at consumer-centric crypto applications has become unviable. The project noted that growth has plateaued due to a constrained DeFi ecosystem, insufficient network liquidity, limited engagement with institutional investors, and a reduced budget in comparison to its rivals.
Over the last year, the Abstract team has thoroughly explored various strategies to enhance product-market alignment and expand the network. However, they faced considerable obstacles stemming from the significant transformations in the blockchain environment. The statement revealed that they ultimately had to decide between continuing to allocate resources to an increasingly unsustainable network that lacked adequate growth or opting to discontinue the project altogether.
