Justin Drake, a researcher focused on Ethereum (CRYPTO: $ETH), is urging cryptocurrency investors to enter “bunker mode” amidst potential threats from artificial intelligence (A.I.) technologies.
Drake specifically warned that A.I. could possibly breach the mathematical protocols securing Bitcoin (CRYPTO: $BTC) and Ethereum wallets.
His statements indicated that such a situation might arise “in months, not years” under dire circumstances.

“I urge the blockchain sector to carefully start planning for ‘bunker mode’,” Drake shared on social media, encouraging investors to transfer their assets to new addresses.
A digital wallet relies on a private key, a confidential code used for transaction authorizations. Although public keys are relatively easy to generate, decrypting them currently demands significant computational power.
Nevertheless, there are increasing concerns within the cryptocurrency community that advanced A.I. and quantum computing technologies may have the capability to easily compromise private keys and siphon off digital currencies.
Drake noted that A.I. might assist potential attackers in discovering shortcuts to recover private keys, allowing them to spend cryptocurrencies using standard computers rather than needing quantum devices.
He pointed out that millions of Bitcoins are stored in addresses with publicly visible keys on various blockchain platforms.
On the Ethereum network, any account that has conducted a transaction has effectively exposed its key.
Drake further cautioned that the mathematical principles behind wallet signatures for Bitcoin and Ethereum, known as elliptic curves, display regular patterns that a sufficiently powerful A.I. could leverage.
As of October 8, Ethereum is trading at $2,540 U.S. dollars.
