Some individuals possess the unique ability to transform straw into gold, akin to the legendary King Midas. Among them is entrepreneur and cryptocurrency millionaire Tobias Reichmuth, who has discovered ways to generate wealth effortlessly while simultaneously heating his lavish mansion, which features an exquisite pool and a custom garage for three vehicles.
Tobias Reichmuth, a prominent Swiss business magnate and media figure, is renowned not only for his entrepreneurial ventures but also for his fervent environmental advocacy and biohacking pursuits. His net worth is currently estimated at approximately $150 million, positioning him among Switzerland’s wealthiest individuals. Notably, he is the pioneer in crafting a residence in Switzerland that relies entirely on waste heat from cryptocurrency mining for its heating needs.
Essentially, his house operates a cryptocurrency mining operation while maintaining comfortable temperatures year-round, effectively creating a self-sufficient ecosystem that is both stunning and functional!
This remarkable residence, known as Villa Volt, resembles a luxurious alpine chalet situated in a prime location. It is often cited as a leading example of sustainability in the contemporary digital era. Commissioned in 2021 and completed in 2025, this property is now available for luxury rental, accommodating multi-generational families and select events.
Nestled in St. Moritz in the Swiss Alps near the Italian border, Villa Volt is convenient to the Chantarella cable car and ski slopes, offering breathtaking views of the luxury resort and nearby lake. The mini-mansion features four bedrooms, with three main suites and a separate guest house, alongside its private custom garage and an open terrace with direct access, all complemented by its stunning and innovative design.
This exceptional residence is the first residential construction in the nation to utilize this unique heating method and is also the only one globally to employ the RY3T One computational energy system.
When discussing homes as “moneymakers,” people typically think of rental profitability. Villa Volt is lucrative as a rental, but it also profits from Bitcoin mining via the RY3T One miner located deep in the basement, effectively eliminating heating costs.
While other rental properties may be profitable, Villa Volt triples that potential.
Designed by Ruch Architeketen with contributions from Zalaba Design and Greset-Reich for interiors, Villa Volt is envisioned as a self-sustaining ecosystem that operates entirely on alternative energy sources for electricity and heating. Beyond its innovative feature of crypto-mining, Villa Volt epitomizes creative solutions for sustainable luxury living, often considered a frivolous pursuit like a ski chalet.
The facade of Villa Volt is adorned with high-performance solar panels capable of generating electricity year-round, even in cloudy weather. Ten geothermal boreholes extract natural thermal energy, allowing for zero-emission heating with the RY3T One system powered by solar panels.
The waste heat generated by the crypto mining operation, which would typically be released into the atmosphere, is expertly reused for underfloor heating, ensuring that the entire house maintains a comfortable temperature year-round. This includes the 10-meter indoor swimming pool and the custom garage on the property.
Spacious enough for three large vehicles, each with its own charging station, the garage is visible through a glass wall that separates it from the Longevity Spa. Given the mansion’s emphasis on eco-friendly solutions, the garage certainly meets high expectations.
Every component within Villa Volt has been meticulously designed as part of this sustainable ecosystem. For instance, residual energy from the advanced cryochamber located within the Longevity Spa is reintroduced into the geothermal system, creating what they call “an elegant loop of renewable efficiency.”
The mining operation is seamlessly integrated into the home’s smart management system, ensuring that the climate control maintains ideal temperatures throughout the seasons while keeping humidity levels at a minimum of 30% for optimal sleep quality.
The choice of materials and finishes also reflects a commitment to sustainability. The official property description highlights clay wall finishes that “regulate moisture and purify air,” along with the extensive use of natural materials throughout the residence.
In addition to its sustainable design, Villa Volt impresses with its aesthetic appeal, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows that offer panoramic views from any spot inside, towering ceilings, and a refined alpine minimalist style.
Noteworthy amenities include a sunbathed terrace, a wine cellar featuring a historic 110-year-old hand-carved Swiss pine lounge, a custom glass fridge capable of holding 60 bottles, an artistic fireplace, a carefully curated collection of contemporary art, and the Longevity Spa. The spa boasts a 10-meter pool with a counter-current, a glass-paneled sauna, a cold plunge, a meditation space, a fitness center, and a cryochamber that can reach chilling temperatures as low as -110°C (-166°F).
Villa Volt sprawls across five levels, including the garage, all interconnected via a private elevator. It is available for rental on various platforms, with a minimum stay of seven nights costing around $80,000, excluding additional services like staff or a personal chef.
