Ledger has initiated an investigation into reports regarding missing funds from customers based in Southeast Asia who acquired hardware wallets from a reseller known as CryptoBilis.
The firm has instructed CryptoBilis to halt all sales and deliveries of Ledger products until further notice.
Ledger has also advised clients who purchased devices from this reseller in the last three months to refrain from initializing them if they haven’t done so yet.
For those who have already set up a device acquired through CryptoBilis, Ledger suggests considering the transition to a new Ledger wallet using a different seed phrase.
Ledger Investigates Possible Supply Chain Complications
Current concerns seem to focus more on the reseller network rather than Ledger products themselves.
CZ, the ex-CEO of Binance, has commented that the situation resembles a localized supply chain breach based on existing information.
⚠️ If you use a Ledger hardware wallet, especially if purchased recently, be cautious.
Current information indicates a possible localized supply chain breach involving a single vendor. A select few may have received counterfeit or altered Ledgers.
Ledger is one of the most secure and longest-established hardware wallets in the market, withstanding numerous challenges. Nonetheless, incidents can occur.
I anticipate all BNB ecosystem stakeholders (and the wider industry) will contribute to tracking and recovering lost funds.

He indicated that a limited number of users might have received counterfeit or tampered devices.
This distinction is crucial.
At this moment, there is no evidence suggesting that Ledger hardware wallets overall have been compromised. The incident appears to be specific to devices sold by a particular reseller.
CZ emphasized Ledger’s reputation as one of the most enduring hardware wallet providers in the cryptocurrency space and expressed confidence that industry peers will assist in tracking down and recovering impacted funds when feasible.
Guidance for Affected Users
Ledger’s advice is clear.
Customers who acquired devices from CryptoBilis within the last 90 days and have not yet set them up should avoid doing so in the meantime.
Those who have already initialized one of the affected devices should contemplate transferring their assets to a different hardware wallet or signer with a new seed phrase.
Ledger will release further information as the inquiry progresses.
