The ongoing trade disagreements between the United States, led by former President Donald Trump, and China, combined with initiatives to boost Bitcoin mining within the US, are expected to provide a significant boost to American manufacturers of Bitcoin mining equipment. Currently, these US companies hold a relatively small portion of the global market compared to their larger Chinese competitors.
While the United States is responsible for over 40% of the total global hashrate of the Bitcoin network, it still relies heavily on mining rigs produced in China. Bitmain, a Chinese company, reportedly controls a substantial portion of the Bitcoin mining hardware manufacturing market, estimated to be around 90%.
Sanjay Gupta, chief strategy officer at Auradine, stated in a recent interview with Cointelegraph that “The former President’s continued efforts to support the American Bitcoin mining sector highlights the critical need to reduce US dependence on foreign-made technology.”
Last year, American Bitcoin companies experienced significant supply chain issues when thousands of Bitcoin (BTC) mining machines were temporarily held at US ports of entry by US Customs and Border Protection authorities.
One of the affected companies believed the delays were due to a misinterpretation that the mining chips were illegally imported Chinese radio frequency devices. It took several months for the equipment to be released.
Gupta also noted that the trade tensions between the US and China have caused disruptions in the supply of Bitcoin mining hardware.
“These trade disputes have led to increased supply chain problems, with many hardware shipments experiencing delays and uncertainty,” Gupta explained.
The US has already been competing with China in the high-end chip manufacturing market, but recent trade tensions have “intensified” the challenges for cryptocurrency miners located in the United States, he added.
Bitmain, based in China, is understood to hold a commanding lead in the production of Bitcoin mining equipment. It expanded its operations into the US in December to enhance its supply chain efficiency.
Gupta believes his company is also well-positioned given Trump’s plan to boost domestic manufacturing. He suggested that a “significant surge in demand” for electricity would “put immense strain on the power grid,” making off-grid operations more important for Bitcoin miners.
Auradine recently introduced its new Teraflux AH3880 hydro-cooled Bitcoin miner, which will compete with products from Bitmain, MicroBT, and Canaan.

When asked if a rise in US Bitcoin mining might negatively impact Bitcoin’s decentralized nature, Gupta answered that securing the Bitcoin network with more energy-efficient solutions based in the US would be a “positive outcome” for Bitcoin. However, he cautioned that if the increase in mining surpasses the advancement of sustainability and decentralization technologies, there could be risks.
Data from the Hashrate Index indicates that the United States and China together currently account for over 95% of the network’s total hash power.
