In the Southern District of New York, prosecutors anticipate finishing their case against Roman Storm, a key figure behind Tornado Cash, around July 25.

This timeline emerged during court proceedings on July 17, as reported by Inner City Press. Assistant US Attorney Thane Rehn indicated that the government’s evidence presentation is nearing completion.

Following the prosecution’s presentation, Storm’s defense team will then have the opportunity to present their counter-arguments. Prior to the trial commencement, Storm mentioned on X his expectation that the trial might extend to three or four weeks, citing complex legal issues and unforeseen evidence.

During the July 17 session, the court received testimony from FBI personnel, including a forensic accounting specialist and an agent involved in the search of Storm’s residence near Seattle. Earlier, on July 15, the jury heard from individuals associated with alleged hackers connected to the Lazarus Group of North Korea, who reportedly used Tornado Cash to process illicit funds.

Separately, a dispute has arisen concerning the permissible evidence during the defense’s turn.

According to a court document, Storm’s legal representatives intend to have a witness testify about the instances of cryptocurrency holders being subjected to kidnapping. Their argument is that privacy solutions like Tornado Cash provide essential safeguards for users facing such threats.

However, the prosecution is urging the judge to disallow any testimony pertaining to kidnapping or torture.
