In the dystopian future of the 41st millennium, a new trailer has dropped for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4. The video showcases approximately ninety seconds of total miniature mayhem, with representations of all four playable factions meeting a brutal end.

Surprisingly, this preview sparked an unexpected thought: calculating the sheer cost of the destruction in terms of tabletop wargaming figures. Initial estimates proved unsettling, and a quick glance at the current Games Workshop offerings – the first in many years – followed by inflation adjustments only worsened the financial implications. Are there any active Warhammer tabletop players out there? What budgetary sacrifices are necessary? Do you simply… forgo sustenance?

Financial concerns aside, the trailer delivers an impressive spectacle. The Blood Angels are the first to appear, rapidly confronted by the Orks. Subsequently, the Adeptus Mechanicus flank the Orks, only to be ambushed by the Necrons. Picture it as a chaotic gathering of cosplayers, attempting harmony but quickly descending into a boisterous free-for-all, punctuated by shouts of allegiance. The trailer also offers a glimpse into base-building features and the user interface.

With Dawn Of War 4, KING ART Games, the new development team, leans towards the strategic style of Relic’s original Dawn of War, rather than venturing into entirely new territory. The developers have previously discussed their intent to build upon the core strategy foundations of the first game, notably avoiding explicit references to Dawn Of War 3. The game is scheduled for release in 2026.
