OpenAI has introduced a fresh capability to ChatGPT for users with Plus, Pro, or Team subscriptions. This addition empowers the AI chatbot to execute actions automatically across various websites.
This new feature allows the AI assistant to perform numerous tasks, including logging into accounts, accessing email, scheduling appointments, uploading documents, and interacting with platforms like Gmail, Google Drive, and GitHub.
However, in a statement released on July 25, OpenAI cautioned that using this agent might expose private data to potential risks, specifically due to a vulnerability called “prompt injection.” This kind of attack involves embedding concealed commands within content the chatbot processes, such as articles, website copy, or email messages.

If the AI chatbot interprets and acts upon these hidden instructions, it might perform actions that the user didn’t intend, like divulging confidential details or altering account configurations.
OpenAI elaborated in a publication that once an agent gains permission to interact with connected websites, it could potentially access sensitive user information, including emails, files, or saved login credentials.
The announcement also highlighted how malicious actors could attempt to manipulate the assistant by embedding secret commands within seemingly harmless text. If successful, this could cause the assistant to transmit information to unauthorized recipients or execute actions without the user’s knowledge or consent.
OpenAI initially revealed the agent’s existence on July 17th. While the complete deployment was anticipated shortly thereafter, it ultimately went live on July 24th, coinciding with an update to the primary ChatGPT application.
