The team developing the next installment in the Battlefield series, a collection of studios under Electronic Arts, is prioritizing optimal performance. They aim to ensure that the upcoming military-style shooter, Battlefield 6, achieves a smooth gameplay experience, targeting a frame rate of 60FPS or higher across all supported consoles and PC platforms.
Last week, a special preview event in Los Angeles provided a sneak peek at the multiplayer mode of Battlefield 6. Media representatives, including journalists and content creators, were invited to the gathering to experience the game firsthand for approximately four hours. The overall feel is reminiscent of the popular Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4, a deliberate design choice by the developers. The team is intentionally crafting a new Battlefield title that evokes the spirit of those earlier, well-received contemporary military shooters. The initial impressions suggest they are succeeding. Moreover, the hands-on experience confirmed that EA and the Battlefield Studios are delivering remarkable performance optimization. During the preview, the game exhibited a flawless experience, which is not surprising given the developers’ commitment to ensuring Battlefield 6 runs smoothly across all platforms.
According to a report by TweakTown, YouTuber Tech & Co had the opportunity to inquire about performance and optimization with Battlefield 6‘s principal game designer, Florian Le Biha, during the same LA gathering. In his response, Le Biha assured that the game would maintain a minimum of 60FPS on all consoles and PC configurations.
“Our primary focus during development has been game optimization,” explained Le Biha. “We aim to deliver a visually impressive game that also runs seamlessly across a variety of hardware configurations, including PCs, Xbox, and PS5 consoles. We are dedicating significant effort to optimizing the game. We are committed to achieving a consistent 60FPS experience across all consoles. Even higher framerates can be expected on PC, and consoles offering performance modes will allow players to push the framerate even further.”
TweakTown also reported that an individual involved in BF6‘s early access playtesting phase, known as BFLabs, mentioned on Reddit that the title aims for 80FPS in performance mode on PlayStation 5, hinting that a future PS5 Pro version might reach 120FPS. They clarified that while the Xbox Series S doesn’t feature a performance mode, it still achieves a stable 60FPS, which aligns with Le Biha’s remarks to Tech & Co.
During a post-event gathering hosted by EA, a personal gameplay session on PlayStation 5 confirmed stable performance, appearing to maintain a consistent 60 FPS without any apparent drops. During the main event PC gameplay exceeded 120FPS and provided smooth performance. While the final game launch in October, or the upcoming open beta later this month, will provide a broader test, current indications suggest that the developers are actively working to ensure Battlefield 6 is well-optimized across all platforms, including the Xbox Series S.
