The much-anticipated open beta for Battlefield 2025 is launching later this week, and Electronic Arts (EA) has revealed details about the maps, game modes, and improvements implemented based on feedback from the Battlefield Labs playtests.
Additionally, a brand-new trailer showcases intense action with soldiers in camouflage engaged in explosive combat. Notably, it appears no helicopters were damaged during the production of this trailer.
As previously announced during the multiplayer reveal last week, the open beta will be available across two extended weekend periods, specifically from August 9th to 10th and August 14th to 17th. An early access period, commencing August 7th and extending into the first weekend, will be available for EA Play Pro subscribers and those who registered for Battlefield Labs before July 31st.
During the initial weekend, players can experience three distinct maps and game modes. “Siege of Cairo” provides an urban warfare setting with close-quarters combat, while “Liberation Peak” takes place in the mountainous terrain of Tajikistan, offering opportunities for larger-scale engagements and aerial dogfights. Finally, “Iberian Offensive” returns to the confined streets, this time in Gibraltar.
The available modes for the first weekend include Conquest, Breakthrough, and Closed Weapons Breakthrough. The second weekend introduces the “Empire State” map, allowing infantry combat within a ruined Brooklyn environment. Rush and Squad Deathmatch will also be added, bringing the total number of modes to five.
EA has taken player feedback from Battlefield Labs seriously, as evidenced by a detailed Twitter post outlining the changes implemented based on this input. For the open beta, players are encouraged to try the Closed Weapon Conquest playlist, which is part of a plan to offer players a choice between restricted and unrestricted weapon modes. Furthermore, maps like Siege of Cairo have undergone revisions to improve gameplay flow and balance.
Responding to ongoing discussions about Time-to-Kill (TTK) and Time-to-Death (TTD), EA has rebalanced damage values across the entire weapon selection. In addition, weapon customization menus have been clarified, and special “signature weapons” have been introduced. For instance, Recon class players will receive enhanced benefits when using sniper rifles.
More extensive changes for the core classes – Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon – are planned and detailed in the post, but these will be implemented after the open beta concludes. Players wanting to experience the “final adaptation” of the class system will need to participate in future Labs testing before the game’s official launch.
Following the open beta, EA will release “an overview of further changes we’re making on the road towards launch”, indicating continued refinement leading up to the full release.
