Exciting news for eager fans! Battlefield Studios is offering a glimpse into the future with another round of Battlefield Labs testing. Keep in mind, this exclusive program isn’t a widespread public beta for what some are calling Battlefield 6 (or its official title), but a more focused test environment.
This upcoming test phase is heavily influenced by the valuable feedback gathered from players who participated in the previous beta weekends.
The next Battlefield Labs session kicks off today! If you haven’t already, registration is still open. Be aware that available spots are limited, so gaining access isn’t guaranteed. In a recent developer blog post, Battlefield Studios also indicated future Labs sessions will follow a more dynamic and varied schedule.
A key highlight of this test is the introduction of an initial version of the in-game server browser. This much-requested feature by veteran players is making a return, although its initial implementation will be exclusive to the Portal game mode.
The primary objective is to assess the core functionality of the server browser, with a specific focus on user interface (UI) design and overall stability. This browser will empower players to host their own custom matches, including the ability to establish persistent game sessions.
Testers will experience a preview of several features related to Portal’s Community Experiences, though creating custom experiences will not be available during this test phase. Expect a range of filters, tags, and a curated selection of verified experiences, providing a preview of what players can expect when the game officially launches.
Another highly anticipated aspect of this upcoming test is the opportunity for players to experience two of the largest maps featured in the upcoming Battlefield 6 game. Concerns arose from previous tests, as some felt the beta maps were too constrained and offered similar gameplay experiences. Battlefield Studios acknowledged the feedback from the previous beta and clarified that the beta only showcased a small sample of available maps, and that larger environments will be unveiled in subsequent Battlefield Labs tests.
Now, as promised, Labs participants can jump into remakes of the fan-favorite Operation Firestorm and Mirak Valley maps. Battlefield Studios is eager to gather feedback regarding vehicle-based combat, gadget mechanics and their interactions, and the overall flow of gameplay within expansive environments.
Finally, the development team will be conducting initial testing of the Hardcore game mode to determine the ideal configuration of settings, such as health points (HP) and damage values.
While the game’s official release is drawing closer, some of the content within the Labs environment will remain in a work-in-progress state. This allows developers to dynamically adjust and refine features based on insights gleaned from each testing session.
The blog post confirms the plans for multiple upcoming Labs sessions, which is encouraging. We anticipate that Battlefield 6’s rumored battle royale mode will make its debut within the Labs, although a precise timeline for its availability remains unknown.
