Reportedly, the targets were chosen because they were believed to possess substantial amounts of cryptocurrency. It’s also alleged that some of the scheme was hatched while at least one of the defendants was incarcerated at a correctional facility in Edinburgh.

The prosecution claims Barr and Letham
discussed methods for illegally obtaining cryptocurrency and transferring the assets.

Beyond the conspiracy accusations, the pair is also implicated in a home invasion in Midlothian. During this incident, a crypto wallet, electronics, jewelry, and a key were allegedly stolen.

Investigators suggest the men
also plotted to revisit the same residence to conduct a further theft, intending to seize more cryptocurrency.

According to reports, both Barr and Letham have pleaded not guilty. Their trial is
scheduled to commence in September of 2026.
