To better track cryptocurrency mining activities and integrate them into the nation’s financial framework, the Russian Ministry of Energy has established a database of crypto mining hardware. This registry is seen as a crucial tool for enforcing new tax laws and regulations within the sector.
Petr Konyushenko, Deputy Energy Minister, shared with RIA Novosti, a state-controlled media outlet, that the newly created registry has been disseminated to regions known for high levels of cryptocurrency mining operations.
“The development of this registration system will enable accurate identification of those using significant amounts of electricity for mining purposes,” Konyushenko stated. He further explained that this action is part of a broader initiative aimed at legalizing the cryptocurrency mining industry and reducing unauthorized power consumption.
This initiative follows Russia’s legalization of crypto mining the previous year. The existing legislation requires businesses and individual entrepreneurs involved in mining to register their activities with the appropriate tax authorities.
While private individuals are permitted to mine cryptocurrency without registration, this is contingent upon adhering to government-imposed limits on electricity usage. Regardless of the mining scale, all miners are obligated to declare the amount of cryptocurrency produced to the national tax service.
This regulatory step is part of Russia’s growing involvement in the digital currency landscape. Just recently, Rostec, a state-owned corporation renowned for its involvement in the military sector, unveiled intentions to launch RUBx, a stablecoin pegged to the Russian Ruble.
