A fresh update has landed for Dune: Awakening, the open-world survival experience. This complimentary release expands upon the narrative threads established after Act 3, promising deeper intrigue for those immersed in the world of Arrakis. Players can anticipate engaging with mysterious and dark investigations as they uncover long-hidden secrets buried within the desert planet. Check out the trailer for a glimpse into the new content.
In addition to the story advancements, the update brings customization enhancements, allowing players to redefine their characters’ looks. Discover new contracts, exciting items, distinctive hairstyles, and intricate tattoos. Plus, the volatile and ever-changing Dune landscape will now feature fresh dynamic encounters, adding a renewed sense of life to the sands. While other games might boast impressive tidal waves, in Dune: Awakening, you can pilot ornithopters, offering a unique experience.
Alongside the free content, the Lost Harvest DLC offers a standalone narrative for those seeking even deeper immersion into the Dune universe. Prepare to unearth potentially disturbing revelations as you delve into the forgotten histories and hidden corners of Arrakis.
The DLC includes a host of cosmetic and building additions. Construct new structures with the Dune Man building set, decorate your bases with new items, and customize your character with unique armor sets, weapons, and swatches. Also, enjoy a new emote: the Thumper. A distinctive vehicle, the Treadwheel, is also introduced. This contraption, reminiscent of a vintage Penny Farthing but equipped with treads, boasts unique animations and handling characteristics. Developers have confirmed that it provides no inherent gameplay advantages compared to the standard sandbike. Take a look at the Treadwheel in action with this trailer.
Since its launch in June, Dune: Awakening has seen a shift in player engagement. Some players found the survival game mechanics, involving resource gathering and base-building, to detract from the allure of the Dune setting. As one review noted: “The world of Dune is well-realised in multiplayer survival game format, offering a harsh planet of unintentional comedy, braindead NPCs, and plenty of grindy crafting.”
From September 11th to 15th, Funcom is offering a free access period, allowing players to experience all the content included in the latest update. Following the free access, a discount will be available for those who wish to purchase the game. The developers plan to release two more paid DLC packs within the game’s season pass, introducing new locations and storylines.
