Funcom’s upcoming game, Dune: Awakening, presents a challenging and visually stunning experience. Players find themselves struggling for survival on the harsh desert world of Arrakis, where they must gather essential resources, forge necessary tools and equipment, and brave difficult trials. Exploration, deeply inspired by Denis Villeneuve’s cinematic adaptation of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi masterpiece, offers significant rewards, but often leads to perilous encounters. Death by dehydration, monstrous sandworm attacks, or the blades of rival players is a common fate.
For a more relaxed encounter with the world of Arrakis, The Art and Making of Dune: Awakening provides an in-depth look at the game’s creation. Scheduled for release on October 21st, this coffee table book showcases the game’s development process, featuring interviews with the team regarding the design of iconic locations like the Hagga Rift and the Hand of Khidr, and their distinctive interpretations of the setting’s most recognizable figures. The book is authored by Andrew Farago, whose prior works include A Minecraft Movie: From Block to Big Screen and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Ultimate Visual History, and includes a foreword penned by Dune: Awakening‘s creative director, Joel Bylos.
Within the book’s pages are illustrations, concept sketches, and impressive digital renderings that offer insight into the game’s mechanics. Publisher Insight Editions shared an exclusive preview with Polygon, revealing four captivating two-page spreads that cover topics from character creation to the terrifying presence of a lunging sandworm.
The Art and Making of Dune: Awakening will be available on October 21st for a suggested retail price of $50. Pre-orders are currently available from local bookstores and various online retailers.
