Andrew Cuomo, the former chief executive of New York State, is reportedly planning a mayoral campaign for New York City, placing technological advancement at the forefront.

His projected platform centers on strengthening the city’s position in burgeoning sectors like digital currencies, artificial intelligence (AI), and the life sciences.

Cuomo’s strategy involves establishing a “chief innovation officer” position. This role aims to foster employment opportunities and draw investments by championing the integration of cutting-edge technologies throughout city operations.

According to a social media post by Eleanor Terrett, co-presenter of Crypto in America, the campaign purportedly envisions an Innovation Council. This body would advise the city on matters concerning technological integration, workforce development, and streamlining bureaucratic processes.

The planned Innovation Council would be structured into three advisory subgroups, each specializing in digital assets, AI solutions, and biotechnology respectively.

The aim is for these subgroups to offer practical recommendations on optimizing the application of these technologies within New York City and simplifying operations for businesses operating within these sectors.

Notably, current Mayor Eric Adams has already inaugurated a dedicated municipal division for blockchain and digital assets.
