During the trading period from October 5 to 9, 2026, US spot Bitcoin and Ethereum exchange-traded funds experienced a significant net withdrawal exceeding $1.22 billion.
This downturn affected both major categories of cryptocurrency ETFs simultaneously. Bitcoin funds marked their weakest performance since late June, while Ethereum products faced their largest weekly withdrawal since January 2026.
Over the week, Bitcoin ETFs suffered net redemptions estimated between $679 million and $681 million, ending a three-week inflow trend for the sector.
The most significant losses occurred in the middle of the week, where a record daily exit for Bitcoin products was noted, with redemptions between $484 million and $487 million.
Similarly, Ethereum ETFs experienced a tough period, losing approximately $542 million over five consecutive days of outflows.
This amount signifies the largest weekly withdrawal for Ether products since January 2026, further extending their losing streak to nine consecutive sessions.
In total, the combined net outflows from Bitcoin and Ethereum reached around $1.22 billion for the week.
Notably, the major contributors to these withdrawals included BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) and its Ethereum counterpart (ETHA), which represented substantial portions of the total outflows.
Additionally, Solana ETFs encountered around $25 million in outflows, bringing an end to a streak of 14 weeks of inflows.
Despite the recent withdrawals, year-to-date inflows for both Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs remain positive, indicating resilience in the market.
The withdrawals coincided with ongoing regulatory changes and fluctuations in the market.
Furthermore, the widespread nature of the selling is noteworthy, as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana all experienced net outflows during this period, with Ether funds continuing their losing streak into a ninth session.
ETF redemptions could potentially exert additional pressure on spot markets. When investors withdraw funds, issuers may be compelled to adjust their underlying holdings.
The concentration of Bitcoin outflows in a single midweek session indicates that a few large investors might have driven this repositioning.
On the Ethereum side, the scenario appears somewhat more precarious. Its longer streak of outflows and the significant weekly total pose challenges for recovery.
Moreover, the conclusion of Solana’s 14-week inflow streak adds another dimension to these developments.
